I will be purchasing the Steeda race cowl hood in the next couple weeks and I have a couple questions.

First, if you had to suggest FUNCTIONAL hood pins, what would you suggest? I have looked at a few, but I want feedback from real people.

Second, I have researched and heard that you are unable to use hood struts on aftermarket, preferrably fiberglass hoods. Is this ture?

Thank you in advance.

Laura I have the Steeda race cowl hood and I use the Shelby GT hood pins. They fit well and enter the hood at a good spot.

Thanks Earl. From what I can tell in your sig pic is that you are using some type of hood struts. Any issue with those?

I heard the same thing about the hood struts, however all my buddies have them. I inquired about this about a year ago and all the posts I received said that you can use them with no ill effects. I plan on putting a set on my car when I get back to the states.

They are not in the sig pic, I actually use the struts from UPR but they don't attach to the glass hood very well so I am making up a better mounting bracket while the car is down. The reason for the struts problem with glass hoods is overcoming the pressure in the cylinders when you close the hood will eventually cause the hoods to warp out of shape.

Montreal Qc,
Hi Laura,

These are the hood pins that I'm using on mine.

Although these say not recommended for aftermarket hoods I may try them on my Steeda Race hood.

I have Shelby pins in black, and I hate them. They fade after a short while and scratch up pretty easliy where the pin valley is. And I used the cables for about 2 days before they came off cuz they were scuffing the paint. When I get an after market hood, I am going with the invisible pins on the underside..

Thanks guys for all the input. Thump_rrr, great looking car! I can't wait to get this hood on!!

Surprising to hear about the hood pins Steedaman......I was actually looking at the black ones. Maybe just buy some and get them powder-coated or something. I NEED black!

our hood strut kit will work fine with our hoods. We made sure that the struts aren't too strong for the fiberglass, so you won't have any bowing issues with them.

Steve, are you referring to your Billet hood struts?

Another question.......have any of you had any problems with your hoods? i.e. warping, cracking, etc.

The fit and finish on these hoods is second to none.
I've had mine 3 years now with no regrets.

The race version is 9lbs lighter but more importantly it has a fully open cowl keeping underhood temps very close to ambient while driving.

+1 on what Thumpr said. The best part of the race version is the back being totally open and another nice feature is the washer nozzles mount upside down under the cowl.

That would be the ones!

and our hoods are made very well. I have heard my body shop guys tell me that the prep time on the hoods is very minimal compared to other ones out there. That helps keeps the painting price down too.

Thanks everyone for the information.....it is greatly appreciated!! I have to be honest, I have gotten some negative input about these hoods. I am guessing alot of what you get is based on the shop you take it to?

I love my race cowl. It's been on the car for over two and a half years. No hood pins. I want some though.
