I've got a Bassani catted X pipe with ford racing axlebacks (the GT500 mufflers)....... It was quiet when I first got the mufflers but now after 3 months it sounds like a truck with bad exhaust! The mufflers sound terrible and are very kackly so I need to buy something else.

I used to have MAC axlebacks with the X pipe and it sounded very good but was too loud so I'm looking for something different???

I'm wondering if I should go with a straight through design with the X pipe or would it be super loud like that??
I was thinking the Ford Racing axlebacks that are straight through??

Did you change anything else? It's not like those mufflers to blow out or change their sound like that. I like the sound of the magnaflows, Steeda, or bassani setup with a catted x. Straight through like SLP's are too loud for my liking, in my opinion.

Didn't change anything but I'm thinking with the extra exhaust flow from the supercharger, they just couldn't keep up?? They sound like crap!!

I just bought JBA axle backs so I'll give them a try....Here's why I bought them.. Sounds pretty good to me. You can hear a little rasp but not bad.

Bassani OR/X is LOUD and with anything other than bassani axlebacks trumpet horribly...

With bassani axlebacks they are just loud and a little trumpety....

I've got the Bassani Catted X and with MAC's, it was REALLY loud!! But sounded good.....I'm just hoping the JBA's are a little quieter than the MAC's.....

That's what I ended up with after the headers went on. The trumpeting was just too unbearable with others.

What do you mean by trumpeting?

My MAC's sounded really good, Very racey but it was just so damn loud it was rediculous...

Trumpeting is a "bap bap bap" sound at part throttle in the mid-range rpms. Kind of like a crop duster. Once the stock cats go away, it can become an issue. It was awful with SLPs, pretty bad with Bassanis, and almost gone with the Magnaflows. And it didn't matter whether I had an X or an H pipe on there. In fact, it may have been a little worse with the H.

Hmmm.....Hope that doesn't happen. The catted X pipe seems to work pretty good at controlling the noises you don't want.
I didn't have any trumpeting or raspiness at all with the MAC's so I'm hoping the JBA's will be about the same and a little quieter.

I'm running FFRP M-9430-S197 Headers, Stock Cats, M-5251-R ORXP, and Magnaflow Cat-Back system. There is no trumpeting, popping or rattles. It is quiter than the factor system until I step on it, then it sounds great.

I am thinking about switching over to the Magnaflow ORXP with High Flow cats.

Yeah, I would like quiet till I drop the hammer... I live in a townhouse and I hate to piss the neighbors off in the wee hours with a loud car.

so just to get this straight, your exhaust sounded great for 3 months and now sound like crap, and oh btw here they are on ebay.

you ever stop to think maybe like a baffle was blown and now your going to sell it to some poor chump that doesnt know anything.

crazy idea, return them, get a new set, if you still want something diffrent sell them as new in box, you get a little more cash, and noone gets jacked

Don't want the same exhaust.

They sound fine.... Just not the same as when I bought them which to me is crap! They were quiet when I got them and now they're loud at an idle which I didn't want in the first place.

You wanna buy these?? They would be perfect for your car!!:doggy:

After trying different set ups what worked best for me with the turbo, (no cats) is the pypes axleback and SLP resonators just before the axle. nice tone at idle, great tone at WOT and no trumpeting, pops or crackles (rice crispies?)

I have the "flowmaster 40's" they are just a tiny bit louder than I would really like, but it's such a nice smooth rumble, there is a small amount of interior drone, but nothing I can't live with. I found all the things that may tend to want to rattle and it turned out to be just one thing. THe little plastic dust shield on the shifter (automatic) and the bezel ring it self, I pulled it off and found what it was rattling against, put a pice of electrical tape on it to fill in the gap and that was all there was to it.

I have had them on since Feb and they are really stating to smoth out. no trumpets or rasps at all!

I have the Dynomax axleback on mine. I had the Mac's on before (you already knew that though) and I hated them as well. The Dynomax with my off-road H sounds pretty darn good. I do get a little trumpeting at the usual lower RPM, but with your catted pipe you shouldn't have that problem. I've always liked the way Dynomax sounded and I've pretty much had them on all of my Mustangs...

The MagnaFlows are quieter than the stock exhaust at idle but you have no trouble hearing them at WOT.
