What would it cost for you guys to build a shortblock using this block?

$5000 for a fully assembled shortblock that has about 9.5:1 compression and approx 319 cu in displacement. We are looking at building some of these as well! We have two of these in test cars right now including mine!

they would bolt up to a stock 3650 tranny and use the rest of the stock accessories with out issue? Same price for a lower compression motor for a F/I appication?

Also your typical swap fee would be the same (~2Gs IIRC)

Thanks

Yep, Yep, Yep, and Yep! I run the 9.5:1 compression in my car with 22 psi boost

No that would require a 5.4 based block to go that big on the cubic inches.

And one hell of a stroke!! The 5.4 only has the same size bore as a 4.6 motor. The Boss gets alot of its cubes from the larger bore size

Jim, did you get a chance to figure out what the part number is for the main bearings I will need?

And you're doing this in street trim on pump gas?

And that was entirely my point. I was pretty sure you weren't asking the CR question with race gas in mind for your daily driver.

ahhh I see. I was asking tho because if I did go this route I would really turn up the wick on the boost if I had the built block. I would consider running race gas as the car is not a DD, with 12K on the clock in nearly 4 years I could run a 18-20 psi tune with some 100 oct.

you can run 13-15 psi on 93 octane and moderate timing with that C/R Then you would want the race gas after that.

I am at 12psi now... so if I drop the coin a built motor... I'm going for much bigger numbers and pump gas be damned if need be!

good luck with that. I dont see it being reasonable to expect MUCH bigger numbers than 15 psi on pump gas. I have always considered 16 psi to be tops on pump gas. The cylinder pressures will hurt you ...but your call.

Keep in mind that the extra cubes and un-shrouding the valves with the BB will help pick up some more power at the same boost. Not tons but it will help. I wouldn't go much above 15psi on pump gas either.

maybe my thoughts didnt make it to the screen, my intent is if I do drop the coin on the built block I'll go for big power and I'll use race gas if its needed/warranted to make the power. Since I drive the car about 3000 miles a year and get 15 MPG on average, 200 gal a year or so, its only about $1000 more a year for the power and safety of race fuel.
