  • Hi Dino, I read your comments on this thread and you seem super knowledgeable! https://www.s197forum.com/threads/misfire.153583/post-2584283
I think my 2005 3V needs a timing kit. I get a bad rattle on cold start or very low RPM. If I lug the engine it runs poorly, rattles, and throws P0340/P0344. Under acceleration it's perfect.

    Here's a cold start video:

That cold start rattle is unmistakable. Definitely the timing chain and my advice is to do the full valvetrain refresh and new oil pump ASAP. I'd be surprised if you didn't fish out pieces of broken timing chain guide inside the oil pan.

Thank you for your time and directions. I think I will revist the thought on cams and also pay closer attention to how I drive the car pertaining to the RPM range it normally sees. I believe I usually shift around the 3500 to 4500 range. And the 4.10's are an idea I had been considering.
PS I will be installing timing components along with water and oil pump as you previously stated in another thread. You are deserving of kind words as to me you are to this forum what Litto is to the tune, the fact that you are willing to share your vast knowledge and time is refreshing and so much appreciated. Another PS I would mind going with cams, Detroit Rockers or similiar to get some lope.

Just be aware that while you'll gain ~23rwhp with the DR cams you'll also lose some torque below 5000rpm. Therefore if you're contemplating a cam swap I'd also suggest a 4.10 rear axle gear swap.
Good morning, well I miss read it's not 420 words it's 420 characters. I have an 07 GT manual 127000 . I prefer to run 87 as 91 is 30 miles away. PO put on Roush CAI no tune needed. Can I run LTH,UDPS, original intake & TB or am I just wasting money running 87 oct. I don't feel I drive the car hard, no track car. I do have a SCTx4, thanks.

You can certainly run the existing Roush CAI with UDPs, and LT headers on 87 octane as long as you get a tune for that grade of fuel.
Don't waste your money on a larger TB. Just port the original as I did to mine. You can also get rid of the CMCVs and make your own delete plates. This will require a tune.
Thanks! Be with you soon, I started off with 2 responses and it tells me I'm limited to 420 words that probably makes you think"what did I get myself into" so I'll try and condense it going forward. What time is it there I don't want to be reaching out when your trying to get some shut eye?
Hi Dino, would it be possible to reach out to you with questions about any valid bolt ons staying with 87 octane. Thanks I have truly enjoyed reading your posts and i believe this forum would be amiss with out you. I hope I have not overstepped with my request, thanks again. Email would work for me if it would work for you

    Thanks for the kind words.
You can do any of the N/A bolt ons and get a tune for 87 octane.
What did you have in mind?
Do you know if a 4.6 3v from a 2005-2009 Explorer, Mountaineer, or F-150 will mount directly to the motor mounts of the S197, or any information on motor mount adapters if not?

The 4.6 3V truck engines have cast iron blocks and will be ~65lb heavier than the all-aluminium Mustang 3V.
I don't know if the engine mount bracket bolt bosses are in the same place on the truck blocks, and if the brackets themselves are the same.
These guys have complete truck engines and may be able to help.

Dino I have a question for my Auto 07 GT I have 3.31 stock gears I'd like to known which gears I should install to make my car turn & burn ? My engine is stock with the exception of my 91 octane tune & my ram air hood. Brandi

A set of Ford Performance 4.10 axle gears, a TCI 3000rpm stall torque converter, and a retune to adjust for the new gears/stall will absolutely transform your car.
I came across your mustang build site and wanted to come tell you thanks for doing a write-up of it all, it's really helping me out choose my next mods to renew my 09 Bullitt with 150k miles back to shape as its golden days haha. Keep up the good work!

I'm planning to buy a few things like CAI/Tune/BBK LTH/Cams this year and get it running good, its basically stock right now. Before those things though, I'm replacing most of my suspension with things like the BMR K-member/BMR LCA/UCA before I do the performance items.
    Dino:

I've run one tank of gas through my 08GT since I installed plastic panel to smooth airflow. The tank gave me 20.8mpg as opposed to a little under 20 on the previous tanks. The computer said I was getting 22.1mpg as opposed to 21.4 without the panel. I think it's a little early to say anything definite, but it is encouraging.

Anyway, thanks!. After a couple more tanks I post about it.

Hi. You made a comment about cam phasers. Do you believe stock cam phasers are safe if the RPM is kept below 5500-6000? I have the Ford Hot Rod cams which I believe were installed by the Ford dealer.

They should be fine as long as you limit the rpm to 6500 and only rev the engine that high in short bursts. However it's important to keep up with regular oil changes, use a premium quality oil, and check the oil level regularly to ensure long term reliability.
hey man read your sig and was wondering what stage 1 bolt ons was ? see you got good numbers and times
