    Coolant smell

A common problem on the 4.0L V6 is a coolant leak from a cracked plastic thermostat housing. The cure is an aftermarket aluminium unit.

    Tick identification please

Sounds like normal injector clicking to me too.

    Cams and timing

That would do it though quick steel epoxy paste cures a lot faster. There's a decent amount of room to insert a T fitting for an oil pressure gauge but I'd prefer an electrical gauge that I can mount inside one of the air vents.

    Hanging idle in between shifts

Your car's ECU will definitely have a tune. Since you have the earlier generation JLT CAI, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a BAMA tune. A new tune will almost certainly fix the rev hang and I suggest you try Lito or Brenspeed. BTW your car looks badass!

Electrical issues with my 2006 mustang GT

The 09-10 GT was fitted with the better quality, more reliable Japanese-made Denso alternator. That said, you might still be able to find a remanufactured Motorcraft 05-08 GT alternator from a Ford stealership. They're better quality and less failure prone than the originals that were fitted...

STIFFLERS REAR CHASSIS BRACE (CONVERTIBLE) Questions?

Definitely worth installing on a convertible since its chassis is structurally less rigid than that of a coupe. The Stiffler products ARE pricey but they're very high quality. If you're keeping your car long term, they're worth the expense. Otherwise go for the cheaper but less good quality OEM...

    Random High Engine Temp

They all ran a 192* thermostat. Not the best idea but won't do any harm either. It won't fix an engine that's running hotter than normal though unless the old one is stuck partially closed. If the engine runs hotter as the vehicle speed and engine rpm) increases on the highway, the most likely...

    Random High Engine Temp

The factory ECU settings for a 2005 Ford Mustang's cooling fan trigger on the following coolant temperatures: Low Speed On: 216°F Low Speed Off: 208°F High Speed On: 228°F High Speed Off: 224°F Thermostat opening: 192°F Therefore 208-216°F (98-102°C) is the desired engine operating range. In...

Not if it's for your other half. ;)

    Should I get a tune?

You can have as many Mustangs as you like Kev but your SCT tuner can only have a monogamous relationship with any one of them. ;) Therefore you could marry your SCT tuner to the first Mustang, tune it, divorce the SCT tuner from that one, marry it to the second Mustang, tune the second, divorce...

    Should I get a tune?

Unless you have a Muslim or a Mormon SCT tuner, vehicle bigamy isn't allowed. ;) A used SCT tuner has to be divorced from one vehicle before it can be married to another.

    Should I get a tune?

The stock tune only allows for a maximum WOT ignition advance of 26 degrees, which allows the engine to run on 87 octane. However this limits performance and blunts throttle response. A 91 or 93 octane tune increases maximum WOT ignition advance to 30 or 32 degrees respectively. Part throttle...

    Ford Racing Super Charger install

Wow, youve written a whole essay without breaking it down into paragraphs! Firstly about the supercharger. Do you only have the head unit or do you have a complete kit? You didn't mention anything about the fuel system where you'll need a minimum of 47lb injectors and a Kenne Bell...

    Should I get a tune?

Here's a more detailed answer Kev. As of May 2026, the standard gasoline in the EU is E10, which contains up to 10% renewable ethanol, following the European Commission's Fuel Quality Directive to reduce GHG emissions. Most petrol cars are compatible with E10, while E5 (5% ethanol) remains...

2013 Mustang GT oil on plugs issue?

Do yourself a huge favour by installing an oil catch can on the passenger side to trap some of the oil vapours that are scavenged by the vacuum in the intake manifold via the PCV valve from the crankcase. This might be enough to reduce or even eliminate the problem.

    Should I get a tune?

In case you didn't know Kev, all petrol (gasoline) sold in Europe is currently E10 (stoich air:fuel ratio 14.1) and our Mustangs run fine on it. The ethanol content was fairly recently increased from 5% to reduce CO2 emissions. Pretty much. European 95 RON octane is equivalent to 91 R&M/2...

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

If its a fresh engine build with the same tight tolerances as from the factory, there's also the option of the Mellling 340 HV pump (higher volume but not higher pressure).

    Should I get a tune?

If you're still running the crappy stock tune, an aftermarket tune will definitely help. Contact the tuning department at Brenspeed. They can send you a custom email tune that you can upload into your ECU with a handheld tuner such as the SCT X4. I've been running the same Brenspeed tune on my...

    GT500 3V Oil Pump Questions...

I seriously doubt that a high mileage 4.6 3V will generate anywhere near 100psi oil pressure with a GT500 pump. Factory spec minimum oil pressure is 10-15psi at hot idle and 30-40psi at 2000rpm (doesn't specify if it's 5W20 or 5W50). In the real world a healthy 5.0 will be holding around...

2014 Mustang GT COBRAJET new setup

Edit: I just noticed your ECU was tuned by Lund who, I thought, was the top dog for tuning Coyotes. Sounds to me like you need another tuner, and I'd suggest Lito or HP Tuners.

    Stock bottom hp capabilities

What @Pentalab said to a tee. As far as the 4.6 short block goes, forged connecting rods would be the bare minimum (Gen 2-4 Coyote rods are an inexpensive upgrade) but since you'd preferably also want forged pistons e.g. Manley, you could get forged Manley rods/pistons as a package. These came...

    350 inch 3v

The Trinity 5.8 has the same 4.165" stroke but with a larger 3.681" bore for a displacement of 355ci or 5812cc. However that extra exhaust valve does improve higher rpm performance and allows the Trinity to rev to 7000rpm. With such a long stroke, that's already pushing the internals near the...

    350 inch 3v

    A standard 5.4 3V short block has a cylinder bore of 3.552", a stroke of 4.165", and displaces 330.2ci or 5410cc. A 5.4 3V block with 3.70" bore Darton sleeves (very expensive) and a 4.165" stroke would displace 358.3ci or 5870cc.

Which of these s650's would you rather

Yes it has the TR3160 6-speed. The only thing I don't like is that there's a yawning gap from 5th (1.00 ratio) to 6th (0.63:1 ratio). You can accelerate rapidly up to 155mph or 7500rpm in 5th (3.73 axle ratio) but as soon as you shift up to 6th, acceleration is killed stone dead and you might as...
