    4.6 3V engine rebuild plan version 28

I already had a thread going on this, and I didn't see how the cancel this one. https://www.s197forum.com/threads/has-anybody-done-this-machine-shop-rebuild-and-thro-in-a-comp-cams-127200-and-mahle-10-9-1-pistons-on-a-5-speed-and-4-10s.153210/#post-2581057

    4.6 3V engine rebuild plan version 28

This is my current plan after bouncing around several times. Around December, Kelly Machine in Phoenix will re-build my engine using my Comp Cams 127200;s, high volume Melling oil pump, and my Ford brand cam phasers and VVT's. Everything else will be new provided by him; w/ +.020 stock...

    To rebuild a 4.6 3V, or buy an 07-09 GT500. I really want a GT500; I hope it's a good idea. LMK!

I test drove a beautiful 2007 GT500; it had an aftermarket pully and CAI, should have been around 600hp. I sooooo wanted to love the car, but didn't. I did not feel the hard accelerations in the low end, I did not feel the 'always-on' torque. I loved the idea of the car, but for power I like...

Has anybody done this? Machine shop rebuild and thro in a Comp Cams 127200 and Mahle 10.9:1 pistons (on a 5 speed and 4:10's).

Just remembered. I did talk to Lito about it, and he was concerned about anything over 11:1.

I will research that, I need to know. The tuner said he would take the timing back to a safe position for pump gas, and I don't know how much HP loss that equates to.

Good thought. I just talked to Mahle tech and these will work with stock everything He ball-parked a calced guestimation of 10.6 hp gain from the compression alone. These engines are high-dollar per horsepower with diminishing returns. It should be ok, my carboned-up '08 engine (in an '05)...

I don't have a good answer for that. The rods are the same dimensionally as stock, not sure piston height difference, and +.020" might make it a 283'ish if everything was equal. The 420hp seemed do'able from the bench racing I have seen.

I want to keep the budget on the low, so I would like to hear from somebody that has done this 'set-up' and what the results where. I will use Kelly's Machine Shop in Phoenix to rebuild my 4.6 3V (they know the ins and outs of this engine), and BTW thro in my Comp Cams 127200's, my Mahle 10.9:1...

That's what I wanted to hear. It's time to pull the trigger. Thanks for the info my friend.

Thanks, Dino. I very sure it will make me happy. Do these cars launch hard with the 3.31 gears; or are people changing them out. My 2005 GT has 4:10's to axle swap, that may be too low (just like it is in my 2005 Mustang).

I have a 2005 GT vert that I love. All the bolt on's, Long tubes, Exedy stage 1 clutch, 4:10;s. I have 10.9:1 pistons, and 127200 cams for the build. But I know think I want an 07-09 GT500. I need some advice on this; is it a good idea. Thanks, Jerry

Who still sells 11:1 pistons for the 4.6L 3V. The best I can find is 10.36:1.

Ok, I'm interested. Do these pistons have valve reliefs, and they don't need something odd like phaser limiters, right.

Mahle has not made those for many years. Is the kit new or used?

What is the piston part number. I am not really sure I can get away with .020"; long story.

I talked to JE and the 314604 +.020 pistons above, can be made as +.030 for a measly $40 for the set. So either way, this forum has been major score for me not settling for the 10.34 CR DSS pistons. Thank you Dino.
