To rebuild a 4.6 3V, or buy an 07-09 GT500. I really want a GT500; I hope it's a good idea. LMK!

I have a 2005 GT vert that I love. All the bolt on's, Long tubes, Exedy stage 1 clutch, 4:10;s. I have 10.9:1 pistons, and 127200 cams for the build. But I know think I want an 07-09 GT500. I need some advice on this; is it a good idea.

Thanks,
Jerry

Thanks, Dino. I very sure it will make me happy. Do these cars launch hard with the 3.31 gears; or are people changing them out. My 2005 GT has 4:10's to axle swap, that may be too low (just like it is in my 2005 Mustang).

The GT500 is already traction limited in stock form and it has so much torque you don't need to change axle gears. My advice for the first mods would be to improve traction. Extracting more power is easy with simple bolt ons such as a JLT CAI, 2.5" supercharger pulley, Cobra Jet dual 65mm throttle body, and tune.
This one put down 563rwhp & 542rwtq:

That's about 655hp & 630lbft at the crank (stock is 500/480). With improved traction it would be a low 11sec car, possibly even high 10s. All with a completely stock exhaust!

I test drove a beautiful 2007 GT500; it had an aftermarket pully and CAI, should have been around 600hp. I sooooo wanted to love the car, but didn't. I did not feel the hard accelerations in the low end, I did not feel the 'always-on' torque. I loved the idea of the car, but for power I like my 4.6 3V with all the bolt-ons, and 4:10's. Do I just need to learn to drive the car to get the power out (0-100)?
