I currently daily a 2007 Mustang GT that has begun experiencing a bad knock from main/rod bearings.
The cheapest option is currently a used motor. I wanted another mustang motor, but they are way too expensive in comparison to the 4.6 3V from the 05-09 Explorer/Mountaineer/F-150. I am not racing or building this motor -- I just need something to make the car run.

I understand the motor is cast iron, but does anyone know of the main issues with this swap? I can swap everything from my current long block (that isnt the bottom end). Are the heads the same across these motors? Will I need an adapter plate for the motor mounts (or know where to get some?).

Just looking for advice/see if anyone else has done this swap prior! Thanks!

I just got a 2010 mountaineer motor for my 09 S197. It was about a $1100 savings, but came from a low mileage pristine vehicle. I now have ordered the adapter plate and retrieving any helpful info I can to complete. I will be using the mustang intake, dual coolant tubes under intake, headers, and flywheel. I'm wondering if the mountaineer engine will accept all sensors, accessories, and harness connections. Any help is appreciated....

I was wondering did you ever complete this swap?
