Can an Explorer 4.6 3V coolant crossover be made to work on our engine?

I found an 06-08 Explorer 4.6 3V coolant crossover for sale for cheap (compared to what the Mustang ones go for), have been thinking about this as I'm pretty sure my car still has the original radiator hoses on it and time may come that I have to change them out.

The Explorer one looks almost identical to the 07+ GT crossover, except it doesn't have the nipple on the bottom for the heater hose (but the boss is there-could easily drill and tap and add fittings) and one of the standoffs isn't threaded (again, could drill and tap).

Is it otherwise identical?

Ah I see now the Mustang crossover also doesn't have that nipple on the passenger side...maybe that is just a little too different.

Take the extra nipple out and tap the manifold for a pipe plug. A little extra work, but you save how much?....I know how much those Mustang crossovers go for.....I've sold four of them!

Strange they seem to rot out on some cars but perfect on others, must be either wrong coolant or water being used? I will add I've only seen posts about rotted out crossovers, are there any other issues with them that make them fail?

Not sure, I saw a different very grungy looking Explorer one also on ebay with a lot of oxidation on it. Maybe depends on environment, I don't know.

Automotive companies sometimes use different suppliers for the same part. It’s possible some of these parts are from china and even though they look the same they are not upheld to the same standards as us. Like anything else try and buy made in USA. Pay a little more now then a lot more later.

Does anyone know why Tasca shows two different part numbers for the upper hose when they both look the same?

one must be the old ver with no pic or the new one with no pic , so both pics are used but the numbers separate them?

So another question, does anyone know offhand what size the bottom nipple coming out of the crossover is so I can figure out what size I should tap it for?
