Like most choices when you you talk about exterior mods, I think it depends on the look you want to have for the car. I personally like the Chip Foose approach that makes people think about what's really different about the car.... so I chose to leave it black on my car so it would look stock...

This is so true. It totally depends on the look you are going for. Just because one body mod looks good on one car, doesn't mean it looks good on yours. Taking "good" looking parts from multiple styles and plugging them together does not always work out well... case in point:
