    5.4 3v Swap

Swap to a 5.4 was easy. Back then I was going for N/A power so the easiest way to do it was adding cubic inches. The intake was my biggest hurdle just cause I needed something that made power up to 7500rpms. Justin @ JPC got me one of his sheet metal 3V intakes unwelded so I could fab it up on a...

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

Anyway...new engine is done and went 8.90 @ 156mph still launching in 2nd gear. Have a Coan 2.10/1.40/1.00 gear set for my TH400 Pretty sure it'll go 8.50's once I can get it to 60' & 330' better.

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

New engine is done and getting some street time for break in. Going to test next week. New combo isn't much different except forged internals, comp cams, good valve springs and updated the carb a bit for more power.

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

Yep. My fault trophy cars tracked water up further than normal and I just wasn't focused. Had my rev limiter set up to save the oil pump gears...they survived for what that's worth. Sad part is this was a really low mileage engine but it was just stock I'm not out a ton of cash. Looking for a...

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

So today started great... Ran 9.14 @ 149.5 (1/8 mile 5.88@121) Backed it up with a 9.16 then I screwed up in the burnout and over revved it...connecting rod let me know how much it didn't it. http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg161/spyder7724/20180819_165555.jpg

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

I'm near Frederick and normally race at Mason Dixon, MIR or Capitol but now that I'm re-licensed by NHRA and can go anywhere and run it flat out. Update: ran 5.95 @ 120 1/8 mile 9.24 @ 148 1/4 mile in the heat with very little track prep. Slowly upping the timing and checking plugs. That run...

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

So far making 800-1,000 ft passes it's run 9.34 at a slowing 142mph (1/8 mile was 5.99 @ 121) ....not too bad for something that wasn't supposed to even start or run. I'm having some over boosting issues so I bought two 50mm wastegates and in the process of reworking my hot side to accept those...

Not that hard if someone already makes one for a navi 5.4 hmmmm....or just adapt one to a roush/whipple lower.

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

Finally got to test this thing out today. Losing boost at 800-900ft. and pretty soft on timing. My BOV is opening and dumping all boost. Still got a number of decent shakedown passes. Even blew off the discharge tube on my carb hat the last run. Gonna run good when that stupid crap is ironed...

    Discouraged 3v owner

Had a buddy that just honed his stock 3V block and dropped in some good rods/pistons and file fit rings...did a quicky lap job on the valves and new springs, retainers etc. Stock cams no port work, stock head gaskets with new stock bolts...real budget but done as good as possible...thing made...

Works good but unfortunately MSD decided not to give the MOD6 individual cylinder timing...other than that it's fine. Love the red S197 .... Reminds me of somebody that had one bad ass N/A 3V back in the day.....:whistle1:

It's an UCA relocation mount from Baseline Suspensions. It raises the rear upper control arm mount to adjust instant center and anti-squat. Also has track locator built in which Centers the rear housing. Fox body fords and Gbody GM cars have triangulated 4-link suspension. Once we replace all...

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

Car is running and went to the track today. Blew the tires off first two passes but still ran 112mph to the 1/8 mile on an easy run. Finally started getting the chassis worked out and lost high gear on this run. Officially the fastest carbureted coyote on the planet...yes there's a couple now...

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

Yep it's running and driving. Here's some pics of the interior, engine bay and whole car. Still have some work to do and get it on the dyno but I needed to drive it before the end of the year. Runs good no stupid stuff so hopefully this carburetor experiment will work out ok.

Haha not sure about simplifying...simple would have been to buy the FRPP control pack and plug/play. I've got nearly everything wired up...I hate wiring...so tedious to do it correctly. Everything is crimped with shrink wrap or soldered with deutsch connectors or molex connectors. Dash is in...

Coyote with a carb and a turbo...why? Why not.

So I got the mod6 re-pinned. Also got the cam gear modified for the sensors. The mod6 is setup for 4.6/5.4 modulars so I had to modify the coyote cam gear (pass side exhaust cam) teeth. Modular engines only have one tooth for the sensor whereas coyote 5.0 engines have 7 teeth. Luckily the 5.0...

That's the plan. Also why I painted the ARB yellow so I could distinguish it from the rest of the suspension parts. Can't afford shock sensors and a racepak :) hopefully I won't need to adjust too much but just in case.
