    Drag Racing Newby

Thank you for the tips, Mustang50lx! I will be racing a week from Saturday. I prepped the car by changing oil, inspecting and rotating tires, and inspecting the brakes. And then I drove the car over the sorts of roads that should reveal any issues: none appeared. I believe the car is ready for...

Folks, Thank you for the additional information, and the humorous posts too! One other question: Will I need to wear a helmet, and if so where do I find one?

    Drag Racing Newby

Hello, folks. I read threads here but do not post too often, mainly because I feel I have little to contribute. Anyway, it looks like I will be drag racing for the first time, at age 67, at the end of this month. Appearing in occasional car shows and ferrying me around on relaxed Mustang...

What have you done to your mustang today?

Today I installed about a half dozen pins that were missing from my front fender liners. I also installed a set of red MGP caliper covers and repaired some old road rash, that I inherited when I bought the car, on a couple of my wheels. All went well except that the caliper cover on the...

2011 has 110,000 miles. Would like to refresh the suspension.

I recently replaced original springs, Panhard bar, and strut mounts with FRPP parts in my 06 GT with 116K miles. My goals were lowering and handling improvement, which were achieved. General improvement in ride quality was obtained as a bonus. My original dampeners worked just fine before my...

Is it just me or is this kind of an oddball?

I found such a website too, it identified mine as a GT Deluxe with 17” wheels. But my 2006 GT has 18” polished aluminum factory wheels with spinners, and my door jamb data plate info is all about 18” wheels. Also my red leather interior is appointed like the Bullitt I had a couple years ago. So...

Suspension Mods - 06 Mustang GT

I like a smooth ride too, which is what I seem to have obtained with these mods. I drove my car about 100 miles this morning, in preparation for a longer trip commencing in a couple days. Quite frankly, I am pleased as can be with my recent suspension mods, especially in conjunction with my...

Suspension Mods - 06 Mustang GT

Yes. The stock dampeners had been working just fine. I inspected them and there were no visible issues - even the boots on the struts were still in good shape! I decided to see how they would do with merely an inch of lowering. So far, so good. I applied a similar thought process to decision...

Suspension Mods - 06 Mustang GT

For the Ford Performance GT500 strut mounts, P lowering springs, and adjustable Panhard bar, I spent $450.08. The only bushings I did were the new ones that came with the Panhard bar.

Suspension Mods - 06 Mustang GT

I am confident that there are many threads, especially older threads, addressing this general topic. I started this new thread in hopes of providing fresh impressions from the perspective of a 66 y/o S197 owner. My GT with 116,000 miles had all of its original suspension parts. It still drove...

What have you done to your mustang today?

My surprise had to do with the amount of axle re-centering adjustment available with the Ford Performance Panhard bar. I knew that I would get approximately 1" of lowering with the P springs, which was one of the reasons I selected them.

What have you done to your mustang today?

Installed my Ford Performance adjustable Panhard bar this morning. It didn’t go too badly. I’m expecting to use up nearly all of the available adjustment in re-centering the rear axle. This surprised me a little; the Ford Performance P springs I installed only lowered the rear end 1”.

What have you done to your mustang today?

Installed Ford Performance P springs on the rear of my 06 last night. Intending to install a Ford Performance adjustable Panhard bar today, which might be a challenge - the bolts securing the original bar have been there for 13 years!

Worst Outcome - Better Times Ahead?

Took my 06 Mustang GT on its refitted shakedown cruise this morning. Drove about 100 miles mainly on secondary highways. Results were gratifying, as they should be, given all that has happened over the last several weeks. Mileage per the car’s computer was 23.3 mpg. Acceleration was smooth...

Worst Outcome - Better Times Ahead?

No worries. Heard from my intended headers installer. The BBK shorties will increase exhaust volume very little from what I have now. Installer does think I should get a 10 to 15 hp gain from them, though. I know that hp gains from bolt on mods are not directly additive, but the headers, along...

Worst Outcome - Better Times Ahead?

Funny you should mention that. Been thinking about installing a set of BBK ceramic coated shorties. Concerned about increased exhaust sound volume, though.

Worst Outcome - Better Times Ahead?

Got my GT back! Replacement engine revs smoothly. Everything seems to work just fine. An rough idle problem was due to a new but bad Champion 7989 plug, per my mechanic. The bad 7989 was replaced with one of the old Motorcraft 2 piece plugs and things smoothed right up. Test driving this evening...

OP here, posts made over the last couple days have certainly been helpful. Thank you, folks. I am now better prepared for troubleshooting with my mechanic tomorrow.

Worst Outcome - Better Times Ahead?

Thank you for sharing your experience, Candy 10. Mine has been a little different. The 4.6 30K mi. engine in an 08 Bullitt that I had ran smoothly with no ticking, as did the original 116K mi engine in my present 06 GT. Hopefully, my mechanic and I will find a way to eliminate the ticking...
