The air filter location - not a issue.

the cars make over 500rwhp on super safe timing and 6lbs

btw they are kept under the factory 7000rpm rev limit so that shows how much potential these cars have.

BTW those tuning them with SCT, you get 5 flashes before the PCM locks up and you have reflash it back to stock and try again lol

Why is the air filter location not an issue? I've always wondered that about ProChargers. Surely it's rather hot up there and Kenne Bell seems to think the best place for the filter is down low.

What's with the PCM only allowing 5 flashes before needed to be returned to stock again? Is that an issue with SCT or the PCM?

The filter being where it is doesn't cause any real issues. The exhaust on the mod motors are underneath everything. The 05-10 cars didn't have any issues with this location. High IAT's are a result of most standard street driven air to air vehicles. When locating a centrifugal supercharger in that location for belt routing there is nowhere else to put the filter. If you have PD blower sitting on top you have more options on running the filter out like KB.

That is the correct answer, they did not have any other place to put the filter.

But the filter in that location does have issues. It heat soaks pretty fast and you have to pull timing because of higher IATs which produces even a hotter exhaust that then induces even higher IATs still. Is a vicious circle than ends bad (not that you are going to kill the engine when properly tuned but by when your at top of 4th or in 5th all the fun is gone).

Running low boost levels as they might be in the 5.0s it would not be as bad as in higher boost levels.

I don't seem to get much if any IAT issues on mine, but I think the cowl hood helps tremendously with that. I'm wondering if 550rwhp at 6psi is a possibility through a manual with a blower.

That and being on E85 helps too.

Is the typical over 10psi with pump gas were the problems presents itself, you can do that with a paxton/vortech (or any other blower) all day long without problems. (and I am not implying that they are better kits because they have their own deficiencies).

Is just that another filter location would do the procharger kits almost perfect for a centri. The separate/wider belt, the self containing, the new MAF IC location really works, etc. all that is good, the problem is the filter location.

There are a few guys that have the procharger kit for the G8, the filter is in a similar location, and they have very high IATs. Even with an intercooler the air temp stays high.

Most air to airs are going to have high IAT's. We've seen IAT's over 300 degrees in Justin's 05 w/ no air filter at all with the air to air. That's on a high boost application but your never gonna get happen 60 degree IAT's unless you run a race air to water.

That's a nifty hot air intake.
