I searched but found nothing on this one...

I was looking at the specs for the 6 speed automatic transmission and really like the gear ratios for it.

Has anyone done or know of someone swapping the 2011 6 speed automatic into a 2005-2009 s197?

What would I need? PCM...new driveshaft...etc.? What is the transmission model # and cost?

Gear ratios for the new 6 speed are:

1st: 3.66
2nd: 2.43
3rd: 1.69
4th: 1.32
5th: 1.00
6th: 0.65

versus 5R55S

1st: 3.22
2nd: 2.29
3rd: 1.55
4th: 1.00
5th: 0.71

What I would do with such a swap is change the rear end to a 3.55 and then drive this thing in town with OD off and have a nice tall gear for the highway.

I'd actually have lower gear ratios with the new transmission and a 3.55 rear end than I have now with the 5R55S and a 3.73 rear gear until I hit 5th gear. Example: 1st gear would be: (12.993:1) versus (12.010:1).

Thx,

Mike

I doubt anyone has looked into this since you can swap in the 6060 easier. Hopefully Tremec is also going to release the T56 Magnum for the '05-'10 mustangs like they said by the end of this year which should be able to handle a fair amount of power.

I would think that (at least this early in the game) it would be a pain in the ass unless there is some way to write a 6 speed program for your existing PCM. I could be completely wrong, but I don't think a PCM swap would be an option because of it being two completely different engines. Probably would need a new harness for it as well. Drive shaft would probably be different. Honestly I do not know because I do not know if the transmissions are the same length or not. I assume they are not. Which also brings up the cross member. As for bell housings, they are probably the same size, and probably have the same mounting holes.

I know WarFords is doing an auto swap into his car. Not sure if it's a 6 speed or not.

Like mentioned, these are electronically controlled, so I think the biggest issue would be the programming/PCM.

I am curious as well a stalled 6 speed auto would IMO be the ideal street / strip / commuter trans.

What is the transmission model # and cost

the part number for the 6 speed auto from the 2011 5.0 is
BR3Z 7000-B
i don't have any pricing info on it yet though :(

what i'd like to find out is whether it's possible to swap the 6 speed from the manual 5.0 over to 05-09 Mustangs (that's P/N BR3Z 7003-AE)
