my :2cents::
Lighter than a GT
rev happy v6 w/7k redline, 305hp/260-ft/tq... does my 3v even make this power :sigh1:
Nice 6-speed manual.
2011 GT Suspension upgrade as an option w/ 3.31.

With some tweaking I think this could be a hellva track car.

Not to mention... SHO turbos??? anyone?

yes... I'm regretting my 2009 purchase. Still like my car, but the 2011's are simply head and shoulders above the 05-10 cars.

Providing you can live with the rear end design.

I still think a 05-09 GT is a better choice than a 2011 V6. We aren't talking about a huge weight difference, and the V8 has a big torque advantage. When it comes to track use, power under the curve is of primary importance. The peak numbers may be the same, but off peak the V8 will shine.

With 3.31 gears the V6 would be pretty sluggish IMO unless the transmission ratios are different between the GT and V6, I don't know.

What is the weight difference for the V6? I'd rather have a 5.0 anyways (why settle for 280 ftlbs when you can get 390), or a 05-09 GT.

The 2011 V6 only weighs like 40lbs less than the V8 according to C&D. Definitely not enough to justify NOT getting a 5.0

Lighter? Maybe, I'd like to see fair comparisons.
Hp basically the same, but more tq in the 8... plus we need comparo's of Tuned 6 vs 8
6 speed manual, I wish I had one
Gt suspension... good for the sporty driver, but something that would be swapped aftermarket if really tracking the car. I DO like they made the GT brakes available.

Our mustangs make more power and torque then the 11 V6's and plus who wants to settle with a V6 when you can have a Ford V8. Plus the 4.6 is already a helluva track car if you build it right.

How is it head and shoulders better? A better tranny, certainly, but that's about it. Same chassis, the stock suspension is better, but like Shotokan said you'd still want to replace most of it.

Sure, you can get the Brembos on the GTs, but the package is $1600, the kits online are $1200 new, you can find used sets for $600 or less!

The 5.0 is awesome, but you can get the 3v to the same power levels, and it's lighter to boot. Though I admit the 5.0 will likely have a better power curve.

The new 5.0 is a great car, and the new v6 model will challenge a lot of older v8 pony cars and a lot of the new sports cars. Should be more than a match for most ricers at around 22k base! But their nothing too special compared to the other S197s.

Well the Brembo package includes the different wheels too.

I am hoping the Brembo package availability drives the takeoff pricing down even further, I'm not picky whether I find a set that are gloss black with white letters (GT500) or Flat black with red letters (11+ GT), as long as the price is right. :thumb:

I just noticed that the Brembo option also highlights "rear 11.8" vented rotors with 2-piston calipers" as well.

Does anyone know if the 2011 standard GT rear calipers are the same as previous 1-piston caliper design? Is this just advertising or are you actually getting an upgraded caliper in back as well?

Just curious. If so, with the wheel upgrade on top of it, I'd say Ford isn't really gouging anyone with the option.

For my money and for performance, I'd go with the GT over the V6 any day.

I can't for sure, but I would bet the rears are updated for the entire line. I didn't know about that. Something to possibly look into for our cars...

Agreed. My rear caliper seals are starting to really show their age, so maybe I'll look into it and report back. With the axle as well as rotor dia. the same as our cars, I don't see any obvious reason why they shouldn't just swap over.

Rear 2-piston caliper on the Brembo cars is a misprint, all the pics I've seen of them show the same calipers.

caliper seals? what are caliper seals? (sarcasm. my dust boots are gone)

just playin devil's advocate: what's to say both pistons arent both inboard? that is if they do exist. you would think a noticably different
caliper should be apparent, but maybe not. what's our rear rotor size, again?

Man...talk about sarcasm. =)

The published spec on them is 11.8" (for early and later S197 cars).

As for the pistons, I would actually expect they would be both inboard, similar to our front GT calipers. You wouldn't see much from the outside, so maybe Arizona has seen some better pics than I have - I couldn't tell one way or another from the pics I've seen.

Had I known I would have checked it out at the Chicago Auto Show; I thought they had a Brembo equipped model up on its side.

you guys need to keep in mind that the v6 may not be a bad choice. it has a 7k red line. tons more then my 6500 3v which isin't a bad thing. getting 7k out of a 3v is tough without unlaoding the wallet . also 305 285 that is stock, a big gear and a good tune and exhaust and I'm sure it will help it a ton.

keep in mind that weight difference is on the front of the car "huge"

the v6 is what 10k less then a gt ? what do you think the v6 drivetrain will be worth in a year compared to a 5.0 in a junkyard.

I'm starting a new build with a s197 platform that I'm hoping for 2600 lbs pls driver. That new 6 is high on my list as the drivetrain for it.put a big gear in it and shift away.

WOW! 2600# including driver puts you at about 2400#. That's ambitious. A Mini Cooper is 2800# without driver.
