Pretty cool. So the Red Key is "His" and the Black Key is "Her's"? On second thought, nobody is that crazy to hand over any keys of their new Boss to anyone. :chairfall:

The black key is for passing emissions. :highfive:

Dual PCM's hmmmm. Wonder what modders could do with that. Once it's modded in any way both will need a new tune. Now only if it was dual tank/fuel it would be cool for a 93 tank and race gas tank.

Why don't they just put in a button like BMW with the M5? I now i have to carry an extra key :(

It't makes the same peak power, so it's not as exciting as it could have been. Cool in the sense that you could have two modded tunes on the PCM, and have one for valet/wife/child with a lower rev limit and speed limit.

I could understand cost. But i fail to see how button would cost more than a key? Maybe i'm wrong.

Think of it in terms of design and labor. They'd have to get someone to place a button, figure out the wiring, etc etc. Then they have to make sure the button works well, the placement is sound, nothing will catch on fire...seems trivial but all these factors come into mind as a manufacturer. It's not all that hard but compared to just stamping another key (which they have machines and computers already set up for and probably automated) and altering just one line of code in the chip to "activate" the other tune, it's probably more costly and time consuming.

Then there's the novelty of having two keys. I mean, yeah cool your car has a button that changes the tune. But when's the last car you saw where you got two keys? It's kind of the uniqueness of it I suppose. Think about the kind of person that is going to buy this car. Most car junkies like us on here would probably just buy a regular old GT and modify it to haul ass (most, not all of us, I see the peace of mind in buying a factory all out performance car).

Either way, as for the BMW comment, the new M3's have TONS of problems with the "M" button. It's the PCM that's kinda messed up, my friend has one and she had her PCM reflashed 3 times in the last 6 months because every time she'd engage the M mode, it would be fine until she turned the car off or restarted it, and then it would be all messed up and limp to the dealer. This might be an isolated incident but from what I've seen, there's a lot of issues. Not saying Ford couldn't or shouldn't have done it that way, but I think the bottom line is that it's probably cheaper with the key, and it adds that touch of novelty that the target buyer would probably love about this car.

This is not like the BMW system which has a P400 and P500 mode ( 400 and 500 hp) this is simply a more agressive tune....personally I think its a gimmick since peak power say the same...unless they are lying about that...:evillaugh:

I'm thinking it's being done like this so they can sell it as a post-sale accessory labeled for off-road use only so they don't have to get the tune to pass emissions..which would probably be quite an expense for such a small production run of cars. Pretty awesome it retains the warranty though!

Clearly you misread my comment, personally I think that this is more than just an aggressive tune..hence the Muhaha....lol. I would like to see the car dynoed both ways, I think there may be a power difference.

they already offer this for a lot of other cars. i think its called a mykey or some shit like that. but its the oppostie. it detunes the car and limits the speed/ revs for teenagers/ valets

I wonder if tuners could use this function so we could switch between a race tune and street tune? Would be easier than having to carry the SCT to pull and load tunes for track days!

BJ

Although I see it being really functional idea for teen and valet modes!
