5.0 2011 vs 5.0 2013

I own the 2011 GT, and have been reading the changes made by ford to the 2013 block. One of the changes was to remove the piston oil squitter that were on the 2011 block. Is there a reason For made this change? Was there an issue with this setup, or is the new block just a better set up without the squirtters.

AllFordMustangs site has a thread about this and their Ford Customer Service Rep. Deysha has confirmed that 2013 motors do infact have the oil squirters. There seems to be a period between late 2012 and early 2013 where they were deleted but they are back. Heres a link to the thread with a couple other links to L&M and MMR who have torn down 2013 blocks and found squirters.

I really wouldnt trust engineering info from a customer service rep.

She probably has her wires crossed, as the 2013 GT500 does have oil squirters.

There are no squirters ona 2013 5.0, the block lacks the provision for them. 19Cobra93 has confirmed this.

Did you look through the thread? MMR was building a customer's 2013 motor and it had oil squirters which is what is confusing everyone.

There is allot of confusion on this subject. I guess having them is a real benefit when modding these engines. I'm currently NA with simple bolt on. You read all the # 8 piston issues, and become concern with blowing your engine by modding it. I have steeda intake with Bama tune, and O/R X pipe from lethal performance, and havent had any issues. I also have the stock 3.15 gears that come with the auto. Would going to 3.73 be to much for this setup. I have very little traction with the 3.15 on take off it will spin the tires through 1st and 2nd gear to the point that the car starts to go side ways. I also installed steeda sports with tokio d-specs, and gt 500 LCA in the rear.

If you're drag racing the car, 3.31 is the optimal gear for an auto. You don't need to go as agressive as a 3.73 with that transmission as the gear ratios are quite agressive from the factory.

Agreed but you also see the same blown engines with people who have oil squirters.

They say the block regardless of where it came from has smaller diameter head bolt holes. That points to a 13 block.

I haven't done a dyno on my car, so with my current mods what would the average rwhp be, and what else can been done to bump up the hp without going the supercharger/spray route.

remove the cats and tune it.

You could throw on a cai for minimal benefit with the tune.

They have popped with and without. Nothing special about them. The only interesting thing is they have been found on a 13 engine.

I actually have yet to hear about a 13 popping, at least posted anywhere

They redesigned the #8 piston in the 13's and did away with the squirters. That's what I heard..
