A different kind of ticking/knocking

Okay, Mustang noob here with a question. I've researched the snot out of this, and I can't find anything "on point."

Since new, my 2010 GT has had an idle tick, mostly when warm. It's not the injectors, though I can hear them too. Instead, this tick seems to be motor related. It sounds loudest when I look under the vehicle, right behind one of the front wheels. Almost like from the back/bottom of the motor. Sounds like crap in the garage where it can reverberate off walls.

Worse, I can hear the tick under acceleration, but it doesn't start until almost exactly 2000 RPMs, and it goes away (or drowns out) when I get to 3000 RPMs. This occurs only under heavier throttle and mostly when I put it under load or lug it, like accelerating hard from a slow roll in 2nd gear or accelerating hard in 3rd from 20 mph. The noise is faint enough that it’s almost impossible to hear if I put the windows down or if there is rain on the road.

I've ruled out injectors, since I know that sound, and I don't think it would be an exhaust leak, since I can't replicate it when lugging the car BELOW 2000 RPM.

The car now has a Tune and a CAI. However, it made these noises when bone stock also. Didn't matter whether I used 87 or 93 gas. Different tunes don't change it either.

Of course, the Ford tech said he couldn't hear the noise. Even if I could get him to hear it, I suspect I'd get a song and dance about it being normal. Could this be normal?

Wasn't this a bell-housing bolt or something? I am sure someone will fill you in..

There has been many threads on this kind of noise from a 3v. You won't figure out what it is. Yes, that's a challenge.

This doesn't sound like a metallic "rattle," like it would with the bell housing issue.

As for others doing it, I have heard something similar with an older GT, but every 2010 model I've heard was smooth as glass.

I don't expect a perfect car, but this does burn me, given it's brand new. I'm fearful I will have to live with this crap, at least until it gets so bad the dealer can't deny it.

I hear all kinds of ticks and clacks under my hood. The only one I'll be concerned with is the one that goes "boom!" Which just means I'll have no choice but to do an Aluminator. I'm not sure which is the worse of the 2 fates to suffer. The boom or the Aluminator. At least I'll get bragging rights if I manage to throw a rod. Sadly, I just don't think 330whp has it in it to break the WAP.

A friend of mine tried to tell me that mine had a exhaust leak until I had a fellow s197 come down and show him that these motors are just loud...I dont think you have anything to worry about. Just do like my dad does when I tell him something is wrong with is car...turn the radio up lol

Sounds like it only happens under load during a certain rpm range, and given the location, I vote for exhaust leak.

Thanks. If it was exhaust leak, wouldn't it happen below 2000 RPMs also, especially when lugged? In my case, if I was to lug it, there is not sound until 2000, and it goes away at 3000 RPMs.

But the radio does make it go away
