"(Mis)Adventures in Towing" w/Tre06GTP1SC

Filmed, directed and produced by FalconGTHO.

So, I finally had my first chance to meet a forum member. It started off accidentally. Tre made a thread about selling diecast and in one of his responses he mentioned coming up here to Phx. I asked why, he said to get tuned at a shop he was unaware had shut down.

Regardless if it had shut down or not, I told him it wasnt the place to go. I got him in touch with the right guy whos a member of the Mustang Club Im in. Anyway, wheels were put in motion for him to come down Friday, Oct 7 and get tuned the next day. The plan was to meet up after he dumped the car off at the shop and got checked into the motel.

Well, as typical, shit didnt go as planned. As it got closer to sunset I figured he was way behind or something happened. However, that worked to my advantage as I was cleaning my car for the biannual "Cruise On Central" that was taking place that Saturday. Had he got in on time I wouldve had to decline meeting up as I needed to get the car finished. Although, that late in the day I wouldve blown it off anyway as I wanted to get in, eat, get cleaned up and get some other shit done.

Anyway, I was wrapping up putting away the last few things from cleaning and getting ready to pull the GO into the garage when he finally called. He had texted earlier in the day when he got past the AZ border but I hadnt heard from him since.

Me:

"Hey bro"

Tre

"Hey man"

"So yeah, whats up? What happened?"

"Ehh, Im in a bit of a pickle."

"Whats going on?"

"Im lost"

"Umm ok. So like where are you? I figured something had to be up."

(And Im thinking, "Ok, youre lost, whats the big deal? I need to find you and escort you in or something?")

"Yeah, Im out here in a dirt field. Im stuck."

Lol.

What

The

Fuck?

So more discussion was had. I made a phone call to one of the shop guys I thought lived not far from the extraction site. He was going to call the owner who does live close as this guy doesnt at all. I rounded up some shit and I didnt get a call back so I was on my way. Got out there fumbling in the dark and parked. I was all fucked up. I thought he was on one side of the road but he was on the other. I left the DD parked on the road (No Parking, btw) and walked back to the stuck tow rig to assess as I had no clue what were were going to do or how shit was going to go down.

However, Brainiac didnt tell me it was WELL OVER a half mile walk to the truck. So, once there and poking around I had to go back and get the car. Well all that round trip shit added 15 minutes or so.

When I got there I didnt mess around with video but clearly I shouldve when I came back with the car. I thought about it but figured we needed to get going on extrication. Some of the humorous impact is lost without it, though.

I never got the call back from before so I called again to find out if he had talked to the owner. He said he told the guy to call and that hed call him back. The owner called but wasnt helpful as far as coming out and lending a hand so we soldiered on by ourselves.

Once back with the car I started to help with the digging. He had asked on the phone if I had a shovel. Nope. Had one I borrowed from my brother but gave it back over a month ago.

Tre had rounded up some wood slats from some old bee hives to get under/in front of the rear tires and was using lose trim wood to dig with.

So we dug, he tried to drive out while I pushed, we dug some more, he drove again and then I told him Id drive since he had more strength to push. None of that helped so I got one of the pieces of wood I brought thinking it would get better grip under the one tire that was spinning. More digging, more pushing. So then I said wed try the red roof tile I brought since it was "gritty" and could give more traction. One more push, still no go. Then I said Id back up a few inches to "get a run" at it. BINGO~!, that worked. Had I went for that first that wouldve saved another 20 mins.

So then it was on to getting the car off the trailer and then the trailer out. Thats where the vid picks up so theres no real need to type out commentary.

Thus was my inauspicious "First Meeting" of a Forum Member. And no one can say Im not a helpful, useful guy.

I will say that all Tre had to do was when he made the turn at the "T" that led him to decide to pull into the field was just keep driving (which we later did to scout out another exit so he wouldnt have to try to U turn the trailer or back it out the way he came) and he wouldve came across a nice wide area TO turn around in. Which is what he used when we got the trailer hooked up anyway.

Lastly, I was rather surprised at the LACK of preparation displayed by one of the Armys own. I razzed him about that shit too.

So, in the end, it was 2 hrs 15 mins of fucking around in the dirt.

Herewith the vid. This is a new, still digi cam for me. Its got a better, wide angle lens and 720P video but it records in dickhead, shitty QuickTime, which I dont get because Canon had used regular MPEG for all their shit before. I dont know when it changed and I SURE dont know WHY but I DO NOT like it. The playback is choppy, jerky. This is first "full length" vid Ive done so maybe once I read more it will improve but as is when I use Premier Elements it has to convert from QT to Flash because somewhere along the line StreetFire decided to be a dickhead and not recognize finished MPEG "Movie Clips". It only recognizes the raw, MPEG "Video Clips" but I process shit through Premier, I dont load raw vid. So that may play a part as well.

Um, one question and I might have missed it but why Tre decide to drive into a dirt field? Uber photo-op perhaps?

He figured the field would be as solid as the dirt road he was driving on. But, as I mentioned, he couldve/shouldve just kept going to either find an exit, which there wasnt, or he wouldve encountered the wide turnabout area the he used after we got everything out.

No worries Tre. Shit happens. That's how ya learn.

Now, Falcon will be bitching at you over this for the next few weeks at least. Be careful of who you call for help. :beerchug2:
