First. I'm going cheap on the replacement. http://www.ebay.com/itm/281008902538

Saw a member was using one with good results....I will give it a whirl.

I knew this was coming btw. HVAC has been acting weird, now the ''check charging system" is on at low rpm. Oh,d and it's singing quite a death song. Coating the engine bay in metallic too.

No point to this thread, other than to chronicle this adventure and BS around.

Is this ebay alt a bad idea? :insane:

I'd personally go with the 2010 Motorcraft Denso alternator, as Ford improved the design and is much more reliable.. I don't recall the part number, but I'm sure someone can chime in and provide it for you..

Anyone using this ebay alternator? I forget the member who suggested this one....He did say he had zero issues and it was over a year old at that time.

I've used one from Oreilly (modified for use with DOB supercharger). It worked great, no issues and a lifetime warranty. No longer have the DOB so I went with an unmodified alternator for current useage. It was bought new off of ebay. It is standard output and cost about $80 iirc. Works fine so far. It's been in for about 8 months or so, not enough time for a long term review but so far so good. The Oreilly alt was in for over 3 years. Original lasted for less than 5 years.

Would be a good idea to get one from a local parts store with a warranty, that way if it does go bad you can take it and get it replaced the same day. No shipping back and forth with an ebay seller.

Thanks for the tips. I think I will cancel my ebay order and grab one locally. That way I can get this finished up during the weekend, and as y'all mentioned, warranty without dealing with ebay!

we've been having a nightmare after another with Ford re-manufactured/Motorcraft junk alternators..
we've even had tuff stuff and PA fail within 6-8 months.. maybe it's the heat in Dubai :p

So far, the alternator that's given us 0 trouble is the Summit Racing Trupart.. it's even cheaper, and all 7 we replaced so far have had no issues, 3 of which have been in service for over 14 months now

It does get a little hotter over there, at least the last time I was there in the summer.

Get er done. O'reilly auto re manufactured special. Seems like a good unit.

I cleaned the throttle body too. It was pretty filthy.

Engine is running really smooth, alternator is gathering electricity, and my > 5,500 rpm "hang" is GONE! (not sure if from wonky voltage or dirty throttle body) Last month I tried to get it tuned out with the throttle decay settings, but that only helped marginally. It's perfect now.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions!
