I ran 4.10's on my 06 GT with a 324 stroker and Whipple with 18 lbs of boost. With the right tire it was perfectly fine. 1st gear was definitely not useless.

Some of this "useless" could be from having too much torque commanded at lower pedal positions. Some tuners do this to make the customer think they have more power with their tune vs a proper tune that takes safety and part throttle conditions into consideration. It's nothing more than commanding the torque of 3/4 pedal with a lot less.

Just a theory anyway.

Unfortunately, I don't have that problem (yet).

You're all going to call me crazy...but...with my new Twin setup, I'm putting a 3.08 in the back.

My experience with my car (700 plus rwhp) is that it was much easier to drive.with 4.30 gears than with the 3.73's that are in it now. With 3.73's it spins the tires much worse than it ever did with 4.30's on street tires. I swapped to 3.73' because I broke the 4.30's, and I had been running out of gear at the track with the 4.30's and thought it would be the best way to get mph in the upper 130's in the 1/4 mile. I think what you are going to find is that with less gear it will require more throttle to get the car moving, and then it will spin worse because of higher wheel speed with the lower numbered gears.
