I am planning on upgrading my brakes and I am looking also at brake cooling kits.
I have found the following kits on the web:
Ford ($385)
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=9707
Agent47 ($195)
http://www.agentfortyseven.com/S197/brakecooling.html
Quantum Motorsport ($200 with bumper adapter)
http://www.quantummotorsports.com/2005-2007_Mustang.htm
Steeda ($120, not sure how it connects to brake)
http://www.steeda.com/products/steeda_billet_brake_duct_kit.php

Has anyone installed one of these kits? And more specifically, does the
duct that connects the hose to the brake replaces the brake dust shield?
Any problems with dust getting into the brake rotor?
Thanks,
Manny

Manny, I bought the QM kit. I just got the separate air intakes, I didn't get the full lower grille adapter. The full grille adapter would look a lot nicer, though. Everything in the kit is high quality and I'm very pleased with it. I got the kit installed on Sunday, but haven't driven the car yet. And in reality, there's probably not much improvement to be seen on the street. I take the car to the track the end of October, and am hoping for the best then.

The dust shields will have to be removed.

If you have any questions about the QM product, send them an email. They were very helpful and responded quickly.

I have the Agent 47 kit with lower grill. Duct replaces dust shield. The front ducts coming off the lower grill interfere with the Saleen I/C. You'll have to modify it slightly to make it fit.

JonW, I did not know that QM had a full grill adapter. Are you talking about the A47 full lower grill? Thank you for your input. Manny

PCDRJ, how long have you had the brake cooling kit installed? Have you noticed any changes in the way the brakes work? Thanks, manny

Quantum doesn't have it on their website yet, but it is coming. $120 and looks very nice. Ask them to email you a picture of it.

I did the cooling ducts along with ss lines, powerslot rotors, and Yellowstuff pads so hard to say the exact impact of ducts alone. It's been on since early July. This was all done in preparation for a road coarse. During that event I had to brake hard from 140 mph and had no fade. Rotors did not turn blue.

After a short conservative drive I can actually touch the rotors without leaving skin on them.

You can make the front part yourself if necessary. Although I routed this air to the bottom area of the CAI inlet.

Hope this helps.

Spectre also makes some 3" hose fittings that could be made to work.:

http://www.spectreperformance.com/modularintake/productlisting.php?cat=install

Scroll about a fourth of the way down the page and look for the 3" hose adapters.

To me, having the Quantum inlet adapters was worth a few bucks more for their finished look. They're $75 for the pair and are very well made, along with being powder coated. My only complaint with them is that they are a bit small, and do not fill up the opening completely.

QM grill

Attached is a picture of the new Quantum Motorsport lower grill. It is the OE grill with the QM inlets installed. It is priced at $135.

Interesting. I have to post the pictures of how I modified my grill to fit the QM inlets. I will say that after a few washings and rain, the black hex screws that came with the inlets are starting to rust, or at least look rust colored. I'll have to look into a stainless steel screw setup and paint them flat black.

i didnt use the quantum brake ducts since they will look ugly to em. So i took the stock lower grill out and cut holes in the honeycomb area with a dremel, just enough for the hose.. I think ran the hose through the square cutout behind the grill and reinstalled grill. You can barely notice its there.

I took the lower grille completely out and didn't re-use it. I just mounted the QM inlet adapters directly to the plastic fascia that is behind the grille. They don't look as good that way, but I thought it might be easier to attach the hoses to the inlet adapters if there was more of the adapter to work with, because they go further back into the area behind the fascia since they don't have to go thru the thickness of the grille itself.

A47 lower grill

Attached is a picture of the A47 lower grill. It is a $100 more expensive than the QM grill. The advantage (a side from aesthetic) is that the A47 grill intakes a much larger amount of air than the QM grill. The QM grill intake is the area of a 3 in circle, A47 intakes all of the flow hitting the side opening of the grill.

I'm not sure that for a street car that is occasionally run on the track that all that much air flow is all that important. If you've got the bucks and want to spend them, go for it. But I think the A47 grille is overkill for most of us. I'm not knocking it, just saying that there are cheaper ways to go that are probably just as effective.
