We just bought a 2007 Mustang GT that supposedly has Comp Cams Mutha Thumpr cams in it, but came with no documentation. The idle & torque curve certainly act like a Mutha Thumpr (lopey & gutless below 4000 rpm), but I'd like to verify that. We currently have the valve covers off to replace gaskets & one bad phaser, so this is my best shot to positively ID the cams.
There's no markings on the front end or front flange of the cam, or on the rear end of the main shaft. The rear face of the rear lobe does have markings on it. The left (driver) side has "01A" stamped into it, and "WV2569-16 CC" engraved by hand. The right side cam has "WV2605-16" engraved on the rear lobe's rear face, as best I can tell. The base of each lobe appears to be slightly radiused into the main shaft, indicating that it was ground from a single piece rather than having the lobes pressed on.
I also tried to measure the lobe & valve lift with my dial indicator, but got confusing results. I measured multiple times and got 0.223" lobe lift for both intake & exhaust, which would equate to 0.380" of valve lift with the stock 1.7x finger followers. When I tried to measure the valve lift directly (hard, given how far inset they are), I got 0.484", which would indicate a 2.17x ratio. I apparently didn't do something right there.
My research says that the stock Ford cam has 0.439" of valve lift, and the Mutha Thumpr has 0.450" of valve lift.
I've reached out to Comp Cams, but haven't gotten a response yet. Their online master catalog doesn't show any "WV", "2569", or "2605" anywhere.
Can any of you help me track down what kind of cams we have? Is there anywhere else I should look for ID info?
