So I recently chewed 2 ribs off of my belt out of the blue...upon further inspection I found out my idler pulley had come loose causing the belt to get fucked up.

My question is, can I still use this hole to mount the idler pulley, or is the damage enough to cause belt alignment issues?

I sent pictures to ATI and they said I can run the pulley in that hole still with no problems. I would like more opinions on this from you guys.

Pics attached.

What kind of pulley goes there? Smooth or ribbed? If the threats are damaged beyond what a tap cab fix you can always helicoil it.

looking at the pics it appears to just be belt material deposited on the metal not gouges.
I would get a new razor blade scrape it off and then possibly re polish the surface to make sure its all smooth
even if you dont the pully will space it away and it wont touch

If the threads are ok and it looks like it just scored the mount surface then it should be ok.

I'd spotface that and run a hardened washer, if it's indeed worn at an angle.

Spotface it? A&P? That would be a standard fix for an airplane in a structure area. I'm wondering how much load an idler hole is seeing? It can't be much.

I'm right with you. If it was mine I'd do the same thing. OP: Spotface is a procedure where you cut away the damaged surface. You could use a mill to do it.

you could make a cutter with a pilot and a piece of carbide, get creative with a vice grip, or a machine shop would probably do something like this for $25 cash. Not much rigging up involved.

Not worried about load at all, the FEAD's on cars just seem very susceptible to misalignment with the pullies and idlers. Nothing but grief.
