Deer hunters?

I tried the guillotines once. They got snagged on everything, Fort Campbell still has some rough foliage that time of year, you can't effectively shoot through foliage with them and, I think I drew more of my own blood with them than turkey blood. Plus I had to tune my frikkin bow for them. Used them one year and sold them. I did take a strutter with one once though and you're right, they are a sight to behold in action. I think there was 1/8" of skin holding the head on.

I've been using Rocket Hammerheads ever since. 3 blades with a 2" cut makes for some fine shooting. And I've made good at 30yds with them. Best of all? No re-tuning the bow for deer.

I had that problem when I shot em on a carbon arrow but then I started using aluminum arrows with it and it seemed like that made it fly straighter. I've only got 1 with it so I can't really say to much about em, but they are fun

One thing I quit doing is taking long 300+ yard shots. I wounded and lost a deer several years ago and was so pissed at myself I quit doing it. I got good at shooting paper with my model 70 at 3-400 yds, so I felt confident. The opportunity arose on a rainy day on a logging road. It was raining and I had watched several deer cross at various distances, and finally a nice buck stepped out. I estimated 350 yds, took the first shot and he didnt move. I racked another round and fired and the buck jumped and threw his hind legs in the air. I knew I hit him. The problem was it was raining that day and the road was covered in tracks, and I coudn't find any blood. I was sick about it.

It was raining and I had watched several deer cross at various distances, and finally a nice buck stepped out. I estimated 350 yds, took the first shot and he didnt move. I racked another round and fired and the buck jumped and threw his hind legs in the air. I knew I hit him. The problem was it was raining that day and the road was covered in tracks, and I coudn't find any blood. I was sick about it.

Something like that happened to me last year, I had went out just to go out with my bow I forgot to take a range finder so a nice 10 point stepped out came in to about 20 yards from my stand but before I could get my bow pulled back he had walked back out to probably around 45-50 yards, when I pulled it back he looked and jumped the second I let it go. We searched for 5 hours and never could find him. He ended up not dying I saw him a couple weeks later limping behind our house.

I have been hunting since I was 12. I am now 27. I only hunt deer since that is all I have the time for and I only hunt during the rifle/shotgun season in Maryland. I just got my first buck last year. It was a 9 point that weighed 189lbs field dressed. I will have to upload a pic or 2 once I get home. I am still waiting on getting it back from being mounted. It was one of the biggest deer that I have seen on my families property. I have a decent selection of firearms to use when I go. It all depends on the stand that I will use and the distance at which I plan to take a shot. I have the choices of 30-06, 30-30, 270, 7mm Rem Mag, or a 20 or 12 gauge shotgun.

We put out alot of shell corn and plant soybeans every year, but I think steroids have leaked into the water supply lol

I have seen bucks like that in the field, on a few occasions, and almost everytime my response would have been comical if seen by someone else. Once while hunting over a small soybean field, i had seen nothing but a small doe. At dark i climbed down and headed for my truck. The beans were dry and ready to harvest and made a racket walking in them. I took a couple of steps and heard a commotion and lifted my flashlight to catch a glimpse of the monster exiting the field. I don't know if he had slipped in while I was in the stand, or when I was packing out, but he scared the shiznit out of me.

Where my GF's aunt lives over in eastern ky she's took pictures of huge elk standin on her back porch, it's amazing. But those are some nice deer and great pics man

Didn't KY just have a program to reintroduce elk about 8 years ago? I haven't researched it, but I hope the program suceeded.

Yes I'm not sure when it was but they've been having draws every year for a lucky few to hunt some. They've been moving from county to county for the last few years, I'm almost positive I heard a cow elk bugle early one morning when I was hunting a few years back

Anybody got any thing yet? I killed this last Friday, nothing to brag over but he was a nice sized old buck.

I only shot a very small deer this year(the size of a small dog). I was only able to go 1 day. It was 220ish yards away and I placed a perfect shot to the heart. I will have to find a picture of the 9-point buck I got last year that I had mounted.

This year, I took a buck with a 460 yd shot from my Remington 700 SPS 300 Ultra Mag and Nikon combo. I was using 150 grain Barnes XBT that produce a velocity/energy of 3490/3964. I Shot him through the heart and he dropped in his tracks.
