I usually try to.get mine clean then ill go over after drying with Uww+ and a QD it doesnt give it an exterior shine but its not bad. And with using them over time it'll make the paint in that have a sealed effected helping it stay cleaner and easy to clean

If you can drive it in the rain you can go to a car wash and use the engine cleaner setting and rinse it clean after allowing it to soak for a few. I can't tell you how many times I've done this. This isn't our dad's 302 with a distributor to foul out. Stay away from the air cleaner and don't wash any black boxes too closely.

I just simple green it, wipe it down a bit, then pressure wash it, covering the electrical and CAI, then dry it with towel and pressured air. never had an issue.
