Well I worked hard all my life so that the Government could make me retire at 60 years of age. I now just enjoy doing whatever the hell I want!! I also wait endlessly for my Mustang to get back on the road. :banghead:

I am always working odd jobs for people, but I generally don't make any money at it. I need to find something to do during my off time, my only issue is my work schedule. I am always on call and I have to have the ability to stop whatever I am doing to come into work. Pretty much rules out any other job.

Odd as it might sound, I save ALL my silver change. End of the day, I toss whatever I have in my pocket into a sealed big ass jug and leave it alone. Trick is to do it consistently and never touch it and over time it adds up. I did that for 3.5 years and when I cashed it all in, had just shy of thousand bucks.

But most of my mod money is just from $60 from each biweekly check, goes into a seperate account and all. Whatever I have in there, I can blow on any mod I want. Not enough in it to buy something, I keep saving until I have enough.

I do that with my change and it does add up. Problem is the wife goes in there every once in a while to grab a few bucks to have change for the vending machine. Still adds up, just not as fast. I have also done the set aside a specific amount in the past. It worked well for me, but sooner or later something comes up and that money goes elsewhere.

Well, The OP did say "or other hobbies" so I guess this counts. I sold a very nice 70 Mach1 to fund my 55 Chevy project that went way over budget and I had to dump when the economy took a shit. Left with nothing and should have kept the Mach1 as it was rare! On the bright side I still have my daily driver (07 GT) Next project will most likely be a 65/66 Coupe on the cheap, time to start over.

im 18 and live at home with the parents. We lived in the house for 38 years so we have it completely paid off. My job usually varies. From 7-1030 a.m. i go to high school. Then after that on monday, thursday, saturday and sunday from 12-9 i work at a grocery store as the Service Leader for the Front End. And tuesday, wednesday, and friday i work for the civil service directing traffic for construction workers or operating a toll booth and do that from 12-8 and that gives me about 15/hr after taxes. I make about 700 a week give or take. I only have a car payment on the mustang, which is 240 a month, and insurance for my audi and just my one stang for now is 200 a month. I have no rent or anything. Every other month i do rotate between paying half of eletric bill or half of the heating bill since i do live in the house rent free, i feel the need to help out when i can. so i basically get roughly 2000 a month that i can spend on mods.

I work for the Worlds Largest Oilfield Service Company (Schlumberger Ltd.) as my every day job and do mechanic work on the side. You wouldn't know it since I refuse to turn a wrench on my own car. Right now I am building a Spec Miata for Road Racing and a (Hopefully) 7 second Foxbody for a buddy. I don't charge friends money so basically am doing it for something to do. Also restoring a 1984 Honda Big Red 200 3-wheeler in the garage at the moment.

I had that issue too. Solved it when I glued the lid shut and cut a small hole to put the change through. lol Also helps keep me out of it cause it's effin work to break into the damn thing.

I know how you feel. My Z06 fund was wiped out along with another $17k. I just spent $38k on my wedding and couldn't be happier it's behind me so I can start replenishing my accounts. I almost had to put the rebuild of my 05 on hold do to the wedding. I didn't when she was going to stop adding things and was afraid to run out of money. Luckily we didn't have to go into her savings to pay for anything.

Did 21 years in the Army, multiple combat tours, got badly jacked up on the last one and medically retired. Not to mention the multiple helicopter crashes, three to be exact, that I've "lived" through. So I get my Army retirement, Social Security and VA pay. We aren't doing too bad. The downside to all of that pay is that as a 41 year old guy, I only have about two "good" days a week. When doc's have to dig into your gray matter to fix shit, it can have life long effects. Long string of health issues due to TBI from Iraq and then the brain surgery. Then an F4 tornado hit my house with me in it. Fucked up my biscuit even worse. Spent over eight months in hospitals after the tornado, only five after coming back from Iraq the last time.

I have a daughter in college we are helping with and my son is in high school. My wife works for her brother making OK money, $18 an hour, and we disciplined ourselves after a few years of hard living to pay off credit cards back in our late 20's.

So I make mod money from sitting around in pain and not being able to sleep a whole lot due to PTSD. The drugs I'm on make me sick as hell some days as well. But I also make mod money during the summer by cutting my neighbors grass. One guy pays me $75 a week, the other is $50. My son usually ends up getting half of that if I'm not able to do it all myself on those two days per week I feel decent enough to get out and do it. I also build and repair computers for various people. I used to write tech articles for online computer review sites, but that shit got boring real quick. I do volunteer work on people's cars, rarely charge anything cause most of them are down on their luck folks sent to me by our Church. However, I do have a lot of friends around here from having done that the last few years, so I feel quite rich. When I need something from an electrician or plumber and such, usually I've done something for them or someone they know, I get a great price on it.

It's frustrating as hell to have a solid work ethic like the OP and others who have posted here yet not be able to do all the things I used to do. But I do well enough. Hell, I've managed to drop $2500 on my car since I bought it, so I can't complain.

I used to build trailers for Schlumberger.

Of course where I work I get great deals. My wife is the manager at the apt. complex we live at, so no bills for me. They pay for everything. She also gets a pay check bi-weekly. We just put her checks into our savings account and then send it off at the end of the year to invest it.

On the side I go and help my dad with welding jobs. Building fences, barns and gooseneck trailers. I only work 1 Saturday a month at LRS, so I have plenty of time to go out with my father and help out.

VTXFrank Thank you from the bottom of my hart for your service and sacrifice for our Country. I only wish there was more our Country could do for you. I read stories like yours and then read about the assholes on welfare that wont work for $10 and hour because they think they are worth more then that and I wonder what kind of Country my grandchildren will be living in. The non workers are starting to out number the workers and that can not last long.

Frank, my ex girlfriends grandfather works down at Fort Rucker flying helicopters. You may or may not know him but since you are right there and flew helicopters maybe you did. His last name is Strickland. I cant remember his first name because he hated me before he even met me so I never got to know him very well, but ironically I think its Frank....haha.

Oh, and thanks for ALL your service.
