When I got mine tinted, I asked the guy about it. He said he'd do it - it would've been an extra $10 or $20 - but basically said it's a gimmick and convinced me against it. He also said it attracts dirt and debris which will actually go to scratch the tint. This is one of the best tint shops in the area, so I went with his advice.
I do have some scratches on the tint - only one scratch is somewhat deep and noticeable. I am not sure if the moleskin would've helped or if it's being scratched below the rubber stripping, but after a few days of opening and closing the door, the indexing feature was causing whatever it was to dig into the tint.
You will know in a few days if you're gonna have a scratch.
Shoulda went with the moleskin. My buddy has a tint shop. The first time he tinted my car they were out of the moleskin. After about a year my tint was scratched up real bad. He retinted and used moleskin, I have zero scratches after 2 years.
