Golfers?

I just booked a trip to Bandon Dunes! February 23-25th, playing all 3 courses. I went last year and played two of the three (got the flu on the 3rd day and did not play Bandon). Only a 5 hour drive

How's the weather going to be in Feb for this trip? I get the impression you'll be experienceing some *true* links golf, no?

I'm jealous, looks like it should be a great time!

My wife has recently taken up the game, and I could only wish to have the natural ability she has. She's a quick study, so I'm planning to spend a weekend on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which is within similar driving range from Memphis (3-5 hours, depending on your pick). I've played a few courses on the trail, and what a great deal it is! Nice courses, CHEAP greens fees (avg @ 40 bucks) and top-notch customer service.

We are paying $420 each for two nites and two rounds. The weather will be somewhat links like. In the 40-50's with wind. As you know it is all about the rain gear, never skimp on that! I have the Footjoy jacket and pants.

My wife started this year and she counts every stroke even if she misses the ball. I tought her to get up and hit! so she shot in the 170's at the beginnig of the year and she kept up Now she is a 120's shooter. She loves it and goes with me once a week when the weather is good.

I don't know a lot about rain gear, but I can tell you ALLLL about playing in 100 degree heat with 85% humidity! LOL

Lots of guys prescribe to the Guys Only Ladies Forbidden school of thought, but I totally disagree. Having my wife on the course with me is great, second only to playing with my father. I plan to teach her everything I possibly know about the game, and the time spent together is great for both of us.

Check out the eyes; Tiger can't stare one down harder than that!

Playing for 6 months now, I'm proud of her progress (especially given her coach!). We're working on getting her to understand the motion of clearing her body out of the way of her arms, so a photo taken today would have her left elbow higher and less "wrapped around" her body. Since she gets her arms "stuck" behind her body, she attempts to pull them around in order to not lose a shot to the right.

I'm lucky though, as I think I'm working with some real potential talent. Not sure I could handle it if she hit the ball like Mrs. Havercam!

The Nike Swoosh was what made me think Wie...lol.

I have never been able to improve my swing (I should say contact) while thinking about my lower body. If my tempo is good I hit solid shots.

Yeah, I saw a few clips on that training device. They called it "Radar Golf" or something like that? Let me know if you try it.

It seemed crazy at first, but I started working with a golf pro in Canada via email. I send video clips/swing sequences, and then we break it down via email/phone calls. I found the guy on (of all places) Youtube.

www.shawnclementgolf.com is his website, and his Youtube Shawn page categorizes most of the videos he has online. Something about his methods "clicked" with me, and I'm a believer now. He helped me sort out some simple misconceptions which caused me to struggle for 20+ years.

If you watch only one video of his, make it the "feet together drill". It really brings the movement of the body into simple focus, and (to me) makes very good sense.

The "mod bug" has got me again. Ended up in a GolfSmith today, and hit the new Titleist 909 drivers today. I was first a little torn between the 909D2 and D3, but after about 2 dozen balls the D3 is where I'm leaning.

I'm gonna force myself to wait until spring, so I can see the ball flight of the two. The D2 has a much "hotter" feeling face than the D3. The ball seems to explode off the tee. The D3 gives the solid, "compressed" feeling similar to my current 905r. Just gotta see the flight before I drop 4 bones on either, and may play around with some shaft options.

Andy have you tried the Diamana Blue board? That is my favorite shaft of all time the only one that comes close is the Aldila VS Proto.

Thats a Mitsubishi righ? I had that on a Mizuno drive a while ago. That shaft is sweet if it's the one I am thinking of.

I have the Titleist D1 last years model and I am going to carry it over to next year (I think lol)

Im not even really big on going to the range. I just love golf, my grandfather taught me at 7, and I have tried to play ever since. Im not really that good and dont even care if I get any better, I hit about 81 on the local 18 and thats a great day.
But the days when you walk off the 18th, and a sense of euphoria consumes you, thats what golf is for me. Im a little competitive at times, but I never enjoy the game when I am trying to beat someone.

Monday I played Bandon Trails shot 92 in a pouring rain wind storm. Tuesday played Bandon Dunes 45 mph winds, shot 86 and par'd 15,16,17,and 18. Wednesday played well at Pacific Dunes, but that don't mean shit when you hit the green and the ball slowly rolls into a drenched sand trap shot 91.
Alot of fun playing a different style. I had 81 yards into the green on #15, I punched a 9 iron to within 5 feet

If anyone had asked me earlier about playing or told me they played I would laugh at them thinking the game was not for a real athlete. And was I ever wrong, I have never seen or played a game that can humble someone so quickly, not to mention when you walk a course it's a work out and some. Living on Long Island I get to play Bethpage Black several times a year. Climbing up and down the hills and toting a full golf bag completly wears you out. So if asked, go out and play with the car or go play golf, golf it is. Though some courses I load the clubs into the stang once in a while.

In the bag; Taylor Made R5, Cobra 3 wood, Titleist 21 degree, Titleist 690MB 4 - PW, 52 degree nike, 56 degree spin mill and 60 degree titleist wedges, Titleist Scotty Cameron studio design putter. And I have three other sets of irons with two other drivers that I play once in a while also.

Baseball and cars are a love, golf became a passion.

And that's my best, my normal is mid 50's last year. I've only golfed for 2 years and don't get to play much, so that's my excuse.

Well, it's still cold in Memphis and there's actually snow on the ground! Combine that with the fact CBS is beginning to pepper us with those short, sweet Masters commercials, and I'm going crazy to get out there and play!

Been working very hard on my swing over the winter, and am dying to get it to the course and "battle test" it.

Friday's forecast is sunny and 75, so calls to SOS later in the afternoon my have to go to my assistant....
