Got a rattling in the rear quarter panels.

So I hear something rattling what seems to be coming from the rear quarter panels next to the rear seats. On both sides.

I thought it was the seat belts but after securing them I still get them over uneven surfaces.

I've checked underneath the car and nothing is loose.

So how some rocks or something went in there???

Sound more like a loose plastic bracket hitting another plastic panel?

Any other thoughts?

Haha. I have the same thing, but more to the driver side. After crawling under and checking everything I thought maybe it was the "Glow-in-the-dark 'I got locked in the trunk' release" but it's not. Drives me crazy.

I would say mine is more pronounced on the passenger side but I swear I hear it from both sides....

Removed the swaybar, my rattle/tapping is still there. Back to the drawing board for me.

Damn....I feel like changing everything in the rear to get rid of this noise but would be mad if I spent all the money and the noise is still there.

I swear it sounds like something in the passenger rear quarter panel in between the chassis and the trim panel.

funny you mention this as mine has recently started doin the same thing. it's fuckin annoying. i was sure my speaker had come loose but everything back there is tight! can't figure it out to save my life.

Could it be the plastic flapper valve behind the rear quarter markers? Take the lens out and tape it open to see if it goes away.

what about the upper shock mounts , they are right where your
noise is .

Question for you guys, does it happen when its cold outside? I read that water would get inside the rear quater panel due lack of seam sealer around the rear wheel area and when it got real cold it would freeze then bounce around the panel making a bunch of noise. Ive heard this on the 10' to 14' models but you might wanna pull the trim panel off and look behind the rear seatbelt mount on the bottom and see.

Mine isn't ice, it seems to be worse when its colder, but it does it when there is no way there would be ice, on a 90° day sitting in the sun for hours for example.

I am going to try the shock area next, just have to find the time. I am starting to think it may be the plastic sleeve on the shock itself. I will also check out the flap that Towlie suggested.

BTW, I also checked the spare tire and jack, it was very loose, but tightening it didn't make a difference.

I have no spare and jack so that can't be it, Plus that would make a metal banging noise. This is more a slapping noise. Like when you take a ruler and slap it on the desk kinda noise.

I work at a body shop and we have 14 GT in the shop now were gonna tear down for this same reason. its from a ford dealer, and they said a different ford dealer that has a body shop said " if its where we think it is, the quarter panel has to come off" I'l let you guys know once we tear into the car

I had a buzz coming from my passenger rear quarter at around 1800 rpm. Turned out to be the metal clip that holds the plastic push pin that goes through the carpet on the sides of the quarter in the trunk.
