so last monday my car's rear end made a horrendous racket on the highway. i was going 70 in 6th. i have a 2011 GT, brembo, with a 3.73 rear end. my car had 1641 miles prior to the break down.
anyway after a tow to the dealership, they discovered a bad ring and pinion. looked like an assembly problem, according to the mechanic, and they order a new ring and pinion. ford over rode the order and decided to ship a whole new rear axle assembly.
while they had the car, i had the dealer replace the clutch assembly as per TSB 10-19-4.
i got the car back today and drove it about 20 miles. first thing i noticed was that the clutch was much firmer. catch point was the same, as to be expected, but the pedal feel was stiffer, as if it had less assist. it might be all in my head, after 8 days without the car, but it felt firmer.
the 2nd thing i noticed was that the rear end whine (which i had experienced for a few hundred miles prior to my break down) was absent. i drove windows up and down in different speeds and gears. no whine.
so hopefully that's the end of my issues.
