If you are on OEM Pirelli's, no wonder you are getting smoked by RX8's and BRZ's. You really need to figure that out! :p A set of 265 wide RS3's would level that playing field a little. STX isn't exactly a known Mustang strong suit and especially not one for Mustangs with 420 HP and 390lb*ft of torque!!! I can get away with it a little as my car is probably a little lighter and has a lot less power. Even I am skeptical that this car can ever beat a prepped BRZ or other prepped STX cars. I almost got raw timed by a bone stock BRZ in a parking lot (I PAXed 7th overall of some 80 people but most folks weren't running any serious tires except the top 10 or so). He was less than half a second off my time and he was on those horrible stock Prius tires.

This is just my opinion, but I don't think STX will ever be a good spot for this car. If you want to go fast with a mustang, you need either lots of meat, r-comps or both. 265 just isn't enough street tire for our cars.

I'm thinking the same thing honestly. If I run into a set of 19" hoosiers at a decent price and I can afford it at the time, I might throw the stock springs back on and play in FS

That certainly is the common opinion. My goal is either to prove it is competitive or that it needs to be potentially reclassed to STU to see any support. It may end in two or three years of frustration but I will continue because very few have given a true shot at proving otherwise. Terry Fair has been the closest to max in ST trim of any Mustang owner but there were some areas he didn't touch in prep until he went to ESP that I think need exploring before submitting a letter for moving to STU with this chassis. I also think the 05-10 cars can deal with the tire issue a little better due to the lower power and slightly lower curb weight. Enough to win is hard to say.

BRZ's are really balanced cars but so underpowered. They got great write ups in Motor Trends Top Drivers Car issue. But I will take our stangs over them every time.

Video is cool, how fast did your speed get up too?

I don't think STU is a good place for the Mustang. You get a little wider tire but this car will never compete against the STIs and EVOs. I was driving a 335 in STU last year and it wasn't even close to competitive. I wasn't prepared as well as those cars but I was off the pace by 4-5 seconds every week. I doubt with coilovers and camber plates i'd be competitive. Comparing my times to stock Boss 302s I was about 1.5s faster in the 335, so I doubt that a prepared Mustang (GT or Boss) will make up the 5-6 seconds to get to the EVO and STI times.

I got my Mustang at the end of the season and I am going to compete in STX...we'll see how it goes. Looking at the times from the DC region and nationals I think it has a chance of being competitive.

I've said this for a long, long time, and I will say it again. The best place that's not F-stock, for a V-8 Mustang to be competitive is ESP. However, I think it is competitive, and more so than you've seen, in ST... but I'm not sure it would or could win without two courses that favored power and were big enough to maneuver.

The simple fact of the matter is, no truly top tier effort has been made in ST with a Mustang. I know that others have tried, but I would not qualify those efforts as top flight. All suspension mods in ESP are legal in ST, and a number were not done. I thought about trying, but frankly street tires aren't my thing. But if stock were to go to streets at some point, then I might try, or just go back to ESP.

The tires continue to evolve, and that's what these cars need. More sticky tires... as the "street" tires become exactly what they are supposed to not be, that will help the bigger, heavier cars more.

I guess I'm sticking to STX for now, just picked up a set of front and rear whiteline sway bars. Next up is tires when the stock pirellis wear out
