Well, I kind of forgot to take installation pics as I was going, but anyways this is where I'm at right now.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to hook up the head unit, iPod cable, and blutooth set up. I'm kind of wishing I would of purchased the blue led upgrades for all of my buttons while it is all apart. I choked!

Anyways, I'll get up pics of the actual install tomorrow, but as for those out there who want to know more about this head unit, and various other models, I'm going to give a quick run down about this one and why I chose it.

First off I'm a huge believer in Alpine head units, and feel that they are some of the BEST overall head units on the market. Pioneer comes in at a close second compared to the Alpine head units, and other than those two brands I never really consider anything else. Though, I'm not saying that other head units are terrible, it's just that Alpine and Pioneer are completely ahead of the game when it comes to double din head units.

Navigation has played an extremely important role over the years with head units and what not, that of course is until the JVC AVX-840 came out this year. To be honest, it's really not even comparable to the Alpine W900-BT or even the Pioneer Avic-Z130BT due to the absence of a direct navigation system and software being pre-installed on the head unit itself. I was never really big on navigation due to the fact that I have an iPhone 4 and iPad to do all of my navigation, but now JVC has this neat little feature that let's you transfer the iPhone Maps that is on your phone to the head unit automatically. It's pretty sweet, and saves anywhere from $600-$1000 from getting an Alpine or Pioneer set up just to have navigation!

Now, my favorite part about the head unit is that it is clean, and when I mean clean, I mean EXTREMELY clean! It has limited buttons on the front of the head unit and only a small bit of blue led lighting on the button. I'll be sure to get more pics up of it later.

Of course, it also competes with the competition by having a bluetooth module already installed on it for wireless talking on your phone, and of course for streaming music to the head unit itself.

Now, another nice touch the head unit has is that it is fully detachable, which is a huge plus for convertible owners like myself! Then again, it would be a pain in the ass to tear into our consoles for a double din head unit, but regardless it's a nice feature to have.

Once I get it installed, I'll be sure to give a more detailed run down on everything else, as well as the quality, which is what I'm worried about the most.

Sweet. I went ahead and got the AVX 830 as I didn't care for the Nav feature and saved me over $100 dollars. Getting ready to do the install but looking for info on marrying up the stereo harness with the Metra 5521 harness. Back in the day I'd strip the wires, twist them together and roll them up in electrical tape. LOL... Not looking at doing this with this stereo.

It was college night last night, very late for me! Ha! I'm about to get to work on it here in the next hour or so and will be sure to help you out.

I forgot about this! Ha! Well I got my head unit installed, and it was a pretty easy process. My buddy wired it up for me, and it took less than 10 minutes. I haven't ran my bluetooth mic yet as I have not decided on a solid place to put it! It's been killing me. I also through in some MB Quart 6.5" components up front as you can tell from the pics. I'm throwing in my rear speakers and putting an amp on them Friday.

Overall, the head unit is amazing. The price and solid quality is what I like the most. I've also gotten use to the whole bluetooth system where it connects to my phone and I can listen to music via phone with no hook up. Pretty much identical to Microsoft Sync.

Got my AVX830 going as well. Appreciate your help and reps for the tip on grounding the cable instead of marrying it to the e-brake. Videos work flawlessly while driving (kid's watching, not me). :)

As far as the hands free, the mic on the 830 sucks. I bought two other ones, one of which got here today. I'll test it out tomorrow. As far as placement, I pulled down the drivers side A-pillar and put it right on the top left corner of the windshield. The cable dropped right down through the dash and I ran it to the stereo. Easy to take out as well. The mic is right on that corner. I'll take a pic for you tomorrow so you can see what I mean.

Sweet. Grounding the e-brake cable is easy, and much a less expensive alternative compared to purchasing a small kit that enables video watching. Yeah, I was just about to PM you about the 830 mic. I've read a few reviews, and they all said that the 830 mic is terrible, and the 840 mic is an upgrade compared to it. I guess we'll see when I get it put in.

If you see in my finished installed pic, the line on the dash that is right next to the left middle A/C vent. I was thinking about running the mic line through the top of the dash and pushing it into the line there, and using the double sided tape to mount the mic right under the dash to the right of the steering wheel. I'm going to wait and see what your set up looks like first though.

Here's the pic of the mic. It's right in the corner of the windshield.

This is a Clarion mic which I picked up on Amazon. It's better than the one which came with the stereo, but still not great. I have another in the mail, so we'll see how that works. Don't think it will matter much since my car is so loud I probably won't be able to use hands-free anyway. Lol...
