Anyone tried using brake cleaner to clean your chrome rims??? I tried it on my broken rim and it's better then any chrome polish, don't have to buff them for ever, it takes few minutes and they look like a mirror! Is there anything bad about it, like does it effects chrome in any way?

Chrome is a coating. I can't imagine brake cleaner eating through it, but if you ever had a chip in the chrome revealing the under lying metal, it might cause it to flake faster.

I wouldn't clean them with brake cleaner all the time, but if there any oxidation or brake and road grime, brake cleaner works the best! I would say maybe once or twice in two month period and then just maintain with polish

I would not use brake cleaner on chrome, especially if you have aftermarket rims where the chrome quality is marginal at best.

Try some Plexus. Cleans and polishes. It's great for just spraying them off and wiping them down after a drive. I wouldn't suggest it on neglected wheels with a lot of dust, but it's great stuff and has many uses.

You are just hitting them with a harsh hydrocarbon, great for greasy stuff.
To get rid of the brownish/black stain, try some phosphoric acid, sold at hardware store
for janitorial puposes. It does NOT affect paint, I have been doing this for years.
A weak version would be "lime away" or 'CLR', they don't have the power to loosen
the bonds of the stains, which is what the strong stuff does.
