Ok for all of you manual shifting guys what RPM are you dropping the hammer at off the line at the strip and what tires and PSI are you running. Im trying to get an idea of what everyone else is doing beacuse i have been having some problems with traction.

I have a Whipple HO 11psi i have 4.10s and 29" MT i have tried lots of different launches but anything over 3000 i cant stick. I also have plenty of suspension mods.

Fastest 60' ive been able to pull is a 1.69x and around 11.80 at 119-122 mph in the quarter.

Sounds like you are doing pretty good with a 1.69 60 ft. Maybe a little left on the table.

I'm N/A for now, but when i had my M/T DR's last year I would leave at about 5500 with very little clutch slipping. Last year my best was only a low 1.6 something.

On my 19" street tires I leave around 3500-4000 and get 1.8 60 ft times.

The key is to make sure your rpms are always on the rise. Basically no bogging or excessive wheel spin of course. Practice, track prep and suspension mods all play a large role in your launch.

I personally hold my rpms a little lower than where I plan on launching. And as the lights drop I floor it right before green and time it to where I am around 5000-5500rpms (with the drag radials) when I release the clutch. The same way on street tires except at lower rpms.

You may want to invest in a two step... it makes it much easier.

I usually end up running both the MT's and street tires in the low 20's to achieve my best launches.

Are you running ET streets? or full slicks? How long of a burnout you doing and what gear?

Those 29" are dropping your gears to 3:73 /3:90 easy. Try some 26" at about 14 lbs you won't even have time to grab second if you dump it at 4k or better. 122 is damn good trap speed just find the right speed to launch by trial and error. You should have been at e-town last night place was empty guys were getting 10 to 12 passes. You could have practiced your launch all night long.

Ive had this car for a few years and been drag racing for a while but every time i go to the track i have something new on the car. This year its the whipple. I need to get a bunch of runs on this new setup. I had the 26" MTs last month now i have the 28's so im still trying to get used to those.

I run 15 pounds in them and do a 4-5 second burnout with the line locks and then run it out. Not sure if the track prep is helping but i think i can hit some low 1.6s or high 1.59s if i stick em to the ground.

Damnit of course i should have been at E town. Every time i go its packed and i get my 3 runs and thats it.

I was at PINKS All Out last weekend in Charlotte at zMax. Awesome experience but the hot temps and higher altitude i was in the 12.0 range a few passes and extremely angry then the second day with the arm drop i hit a 11.80 at 120 with a 1.71 60'.

I used to have those 26" and couldnt get them to stick so i bumped up to the 28s. I think with the 4.10 gears from what other have told me those are the best tires to run.

for me with 265/40/18 MT DRs I was able to get consistent 1.6x 60s with 17psi and a 4700 drop

tried some 275/50/15s last week and could not get them to hook for shit, best 60 was a 1.76, so I gotta get mine figured out as well.

IMHO its gonna be seat time and trial and testing to figure it out for both of us

My personal best is a 1.78 setting my 2-step at 5k on 18" 555r's. But it is a cam only 360hp car with 3.90's, not a whipple car like yours lol.
Are you just dropping the clutch and blazing the tires off?

I slip my clutch out pretty quick while keepin the RPM in a "sweet spot" till I dont have to feather the clutch anymore. I try not to shock the tires so much because I've heard DR's dont like the shock

im in the same boat as stkjock.with the 275/40/17 mt dr i was able to cut 1.66s all day with a best of 1.620 so far at 18 psi.now im using 275/50/15 and i have been from 24 psi to 18 and my best have been 1.69 once, but most of the time is in the 1.7s.it has been a pain in the ars figuring out this tires and on top of that they only lasted two months, one of them allready got strings showing.

To the OP we have similar setups. I run a Gen I Whipple 10 lbs boost,4.10, I run a 28" bias ply MT. Best 60' is 1.55, looking for a high 1.4, best ET is 11.37 @ 122. My best luck is launching at 4k. I don't slip the clutch at all. I have Spec 3+ and AL flywheel, it very grabby. On the tires I run between 12 and 15 lbs, no less. Its gets a little too floaty with that heavy of a car. Each new mod is a learning curve. Good luck and keep at it.

Fire,

We do have a pretty almost exact setup. I am up there with the MPH on some passes but your 11.37 is way better than my 11.80. I dont see how i have that high of a MPH with a much slower ET. I thought amybe it was my 60's dragging me down but even your best was a 1.55. which is only 1.5 tenths faster and still puts me a few tenths slower.

What are you shifting at with that setup and what are you crossing the traps at RPM wise?

I really dont want to blow this motor so im shifting as the tach is crossing over 6k so im guessing like 6100-6200.

You’re in a different power zone than me but with M/T 275/50/15 DR's tire setup I was cutting mid 1.6 60’ before the clutch went poof that day. I had gotten down to 18psi from starting at 22 psi and firmed up the back d-specs to -3 turns and fronts to -3.5 from -4.5 turns, slightly firm setup but the front end was raising 3-4 inches with the load being taken up through the car frame to the rear tires. This was only my second outing with the new wheel tire combo but the results were encouraging before the clutch went. The new clutch ”spec” with the braided line feels night and day from the stock and Centerforce so I’m expecting low 1.6 to high 1.5’s next time out. Also have relocation brackets and leaving at ~6krpm.

28" E.T. Streets, bias ply, 4.30's, leaving on limiter.....FTW!!!!

Pulls consistent 1.60-1.61, and the occasional mid 1.50's on a good track...

there are a couple of things i would look at...first play with your tire pressure...i go lower on pressure and have done a couple high 1.5s... also you need to know if you are spinning your wheels in the tires...are your tires screwed in? have a buddy film your launches so you can see how your car is reacting. have you adjusted your suspension?

Yeah I hear people launching at 5500 rpm and it makes me shake my head because i cant even stick at 3000 rpms. I just want to get to the track where i can get a ton of passes. I was at PINKS All out in Charlotte last week and i got 2 passes on the first day of practice and 2 on the qualifying day. First day was like 90 and humid and poor traction for most everyone. Second day was better as it cooled down but still not a great 60' time with a 1.71. First pass i lowered PSI to 15 warm then launched at 2500 and bogged. Second pass was the 1.71 i launched at 3300 approx and had som spinning. The tires spin ever so slighly in the rim however the last pass of the second day they didnt move at all.

They are brand new tires and i have been told that you need to get a few heat cycles in them to get them to stick properly. Dont know how true that is but i heard it from to seasoned drag racers next to me in the pits.

I cut 1.7 60ft with a best of 1.6. I run m/t 26 ET streets. I leave diffrent depending on what side of track Im on. If I am on the left side I can see my tach. ( 5 inch autometer) so its about 4-5000 1.6-7 60ft If im on right side I am looking at tree and can see tach on top of dash or the orr tach because of my arm. I think its around 3-4000 1.8 60 ft. I usually run 15 PSI. I think I have my car set up right with launch ect. My problem is my car bounces around alot.

This video was taken on a cold night and no line lock yet so burn out was not so good. I have heard though that you dont have to boil the tires just get a little smoke and I heard boil them. Any input on burn outs?
