Hey fellas. I need some very good advice. I just added another mustang to my collection, problem is i have not picked it up. The car is 700 miles away from me and the car is set for 93 octane tune. The car is a 2002 roush stage 2 with built engine running 12 pounds of boost with a procharger and blower cam. The highest octane available around is 91. Should i drive it back with 91 and just add octane booster or what do i do?

Might be wrong but I'd say running it back with 91 should be fine if you don't go WOT and just cruise back.

Normal driving with the Lower OCtane will not be an issue. If you go into boost that is where issues might start!

Can you buy a couple 5 gallon cans of 110 race fuel and add a couple gallons with every tank of 91 octane gas? My Bullitt has a 93 octane tune and it runs like crap on any brand of premium fuel except BP. A couple times after getting bad gas I would go add a couple gallons of race fuel and it ran much better.

I would also get it retuned as soon as possible. Be sure you get the handheld tuner with the car (if that's how the tune was loaded).

If it comes with a tuner you could pull some global timing.

Damn. Its gonna suck staying out of boost. But if there is no other way. What about octane booster?

I know nothing about messing with the tuner. I leave that up to the pros.

Stay out of the boost until you get it home. Octane booster from an autoparts store isn't going to get you where you need to be.

Even after getting it home, I would put it on the dyno to check the A/F and tune according to what octane you can constantly run.

All you would have to do is load the tune, when adjust options comes up go to global timing and pull -2 degrees. Finish by loading the tune. All it's going to give you is a little insurance. It's not like you are changing the whole tune around, just limiting the spark advance another 2 degrees throughout the rpm range. It's a parameter that is included as an option for just the kind of scenario you describe.

Im having second thoughts. I think im just gonna get the car shipped to my location. 12 pounds of boost is kind of high to be messing around with the wrong octane.

Buy a 6 pack (case) of 1 quart Torco, problem solved! Basically, 1 quart per tank of fuel. Good luck!

Torch or race gas. This is a simple solution.
