I got my first Mustang (an 89 GT) in November 1988. It got some performance enhancements (heads/cam/intake/exhaust/gears/GW suspension) at the age of 10.

It remained my daily driver until December 2008, when I bought an F150. When my 2nd son was about to graduate from high school in 2009, we got him an 89 GT as a graduation gift. Shortly after I finished paying the truck off, I was visiting my mechanic who was doing an oil change on my son's wife's Fusion. He and my 1st son (who has had his eyes on MY ' 89 for the better part of a decade) started hammering me about getting a new Stang. On the way home, we stopped at a Ford dealer and I fell for a Race Red GT that has GT500 style black racing stripes. Well, long story short, 1st son bought my 89, and I drove home in a beautiful red/black 2013 GT. We're now a three-Stang family and most of the time, we look kinda like this...

First pic is "my" former 89 on the left and 2nd son's 89 on the right. The other two are my new 2013...

My 89 has Pro M 77, 70mm BBK Throttle Body, Cobra Intake, 24 lb injectors, GT40X heads, 1.7 rollers, BBK Long tubes and High Flow Cats, Aluminum drive shaft, Global West suspension parts, Koni Sports all around, Cobra 600/400 springs, 3.73's, and probably some stuff I've forgotten. It makes about 290 rwhp, and I've run 13.2 @105 on street tires, and shifting like a granny, since it was my daily ride at the time. I'm pretty sure it'd make mid 12's with some slicks and somebody who knows how to drive it.... I've only made 9 1/4 mile passes in it.

2nd Son's 89 is pretty much all stock, with an auto trans. We've since replaced the headlights, since the blacked out ones were dangerous on the roads at night, and we recently added a set of FRPP shorty headers...

The 2013 is likely to remain stock at least until the warranty runs out, although a little more sound from the exhaust would be nice.

tell your son he needs a haircut

LOL... He got one. That pic is a couple years old...

Further updates: Son #1 had my old 89 for a month, and broke a valve spring. Instead of replacing the spring, he has decided to build a 331 stroker for it. He has enrolled in the Ford Master Tech program at San Jacinto College, and is doing his internship with the shop that has been doing all the work on my 89 for the last 13 years... He's also lobbying his instructors to do a supercharger install on a Race Red 2013 GT... :naughty1:

Maybe a little more history... This was my first Ford, which I drove from High School in the Mid 70's until I went to law school in 1980. It's a '71 Torino GT. Originally a 9:1 compression 351-C 2bbl with 2.73's. I rebuilt the engine myself, with TRW +.030 10.8:1 Pistons, Offenhauser Dual Port Intake Manifold, Holley 780 4 barrel (jetted down a bit), Doug Thorley Headers, Accel Dual Point Ignition, Competition Cam, and 3:89 Gears. When finished, it would run pretty close with my cousin's '70 Torino Gt 429 SCJ Drag-Pak...

Yeah, I wish I still had it. Sold it for $700 back in 1980. Bad decision.

I guess it's in the genes that we bleed Ford Blue. My uncle has a 1962 Galaxie with the 406 tri-power engine, Holman-Moody heads. Ran high 12's at 115 back in the early 60's. I guess it took a while to get that beast rolling. He still has the car in his garage, with less than 20,000 miles on it. Still starts right up, and purrs like a kitten. A very ANGRY kitten... LOL

Welcome, and good looking car. Congrats on the new ride.

On a side note, what's up with your upper grill/fog light package? I have never seen that set up before. I actually thought it was a V6 at first. Is that a new option from Ford or is that custom aftermarket?

I have no idea. I've heard that before. The stripes were painted on at the dealer, but, they deny having swapped out the grille, etc. I have seen a couple other pics on the net of 13's with the same setup, always on race red cars.

Examples: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/06/off-track-excursion-2013-ford-mustang-gt-take-two/

http://www.autoguide.com/manufacturer/ford/2013-ford-mustang-gt-convertible-review-video-2117.html

I suspect, however, that although they deny it, the dealership swapped it out to make it look a little more like this:

Wow, that's pretty interesting. All on RR cars, too. You might have yourself a rare find there!
