Guy interested in my wheels wants to know about putting a non-Drag Radial on these wheels once the Drag Radials wear out.

The Wheels are 18 x 10.5"

Right now they have 305/40/18 NT555R tires.

Nitto makes a 285/40/18 but is that too narrow on a 10.5" rim??

The fronts are 255/45/18s which is the same diameter as the 285/40's, So, if they will fit on the rims without looking too narrow, that's perfect.

The next size up is a 295/35 which is smaller in diameter than the fronts.

Then the 295/45 wich is 28.32" tall (The 305/40s are only 27.72" tall) I think that would be too tall, IMO. The 305s already look pretty tall.

I've searched a lot and found people saying both ways. Lots of opinions on different brands and wheel sizes, but not a lot on the Nittos in 18s.

Thanks Guys

NT555 285/40/18 , About 27" high and approved for 10.5" rim
NT05 275/40/18 26.5" also ok for 10.5
Invo 275/40/18

pretty simple Dan to find on the nittotires.com site

Yeah, I looked at all the specs on the Nitto site. I know they are "approved" for the rim. But Lot's of tires are "approved" for rims that still look like shit.

Worried about them looking like this. .

I'm sure that size is technically OK for that rim, but it would look like shit on a mustang with Deep Dish Bullitt wheels, especially when the front tires look like this. . .

Notice how the 305s on those rims don't really bulge out that much on the sidewall. Going down two sizes looks to me like it would be too narrow to look good.

I was hoping someone would have personal experience or pix with the Nittos

Aesthetics and wheel protection. I wouldn't think it would need to bulge, necessarily. But if the front tires bulge and the rears are stretched like a ricer on 20s it's probably going to look odd, IMO. Don't you think?

it's a matter of taste/personal preference

I understand wanting it to look a certain way is taste/personal preference.

I'm not looking for advice on what people think look best.

What I'm trying to figure out is in fact what way it will look with that size tire, since it's the closest non-Drag Radial option.

Will the 285 have any bulge, be flush with the wheel, or will it look like the above pic where the wheels stick out past the tire?

See, I even called 2 different Discount Tire places.

One guy says "They will look fine, won't be stretched at all, pretty much flush with the wheels, perfect fit"

Next guy says "Yeah, those will definitely be stretched out on that size rim, that's pushing it with a tire that narrow on a 10.5"

Can't seem to find a straight answer or a pic.

FWIW, I run 275/40 on 18x10's all around.....they are literally FLUSH with the wheel, If you want protection....then 275 probably isn't what you're looking for.

285 won't "look" much different on a 10" wheel IMO....
But the fact remains you have a 10.5.....275's probably won't even be an option for you if you're wanting to keep some meat out back.

Yeah, I know a 275 would be way too small for a 10.5.

Looks like the only option in a non-drag radial that is the same diameter as the front tires is a 285/40

The next thing up is a 295/45 and that's going to be 28.31" in diamter. That's a lot since the rears now are only 27.72. My fronts are 26.97 which is what a 285/40 is exactly.

IMHO I wouldnt run any skinnier than a 305 on a 10.5" rim. Maybe go down to a 295/285 absolute minimum.

+1^......Keep the 305/40's you'll be disappointed going from them to 285's I had 285/40 NT555 on a 10" rim. With my next set up I plan on the 305/40 555R's on a 10" rim, but I'm also blown now. IMO the rears on your car are perfect especially on the 10.5" rim. I've never seen 305/40's in person so hopefully I don't regret my decision.

Well, that deal fell through anyway. Come to find out dude was wanting the wheels for a New Edge and backed out. I've decided to keep my wheels anyway.

But, I think I am going to go ahead and pull the DRs and sell them and put on some regular NT555s in the rear. I just enjoy the curves more than anything and the DRs just aren't for curves.

Looks like the 285/40/18 is the only option that will give me the correct height (same as my fronts).

Plenty of DR options for that wheel, but not in street tires. I even looked at different brands and found nothing.

Hopefully it won't look too bad. I've looked through a shit ton of posts and pix all over the net. Didn't find exactly what I wanted to see, but I think I can pull off the 285 pretty well.

Yeah, if they made a 305/40 in a NT555 I'd have been all over it. I went ahead and ordered a set of the 285s. If they look too bad I'll just sell them before I drive them any.

Damn, now I'm worried. Should I try to cancel the order and get the 295/45 that are taller by .59" than what I have now, or would that look just as stupid???

And where the hell were you guys yesterday??? lol

I now run 295x45 on 18x10 wheels and it looks awesome. I had 285x40 BFG's and loved the look and I'm lowered. PM sent. They will fill the fender wells perfect, and its a perfect match to you 255x45's up front.

295/40/18 look great

That would be the perfect size, but the only thing I can find that size in is a

Falken Azenis RT-615K

Which isn't really a street tire. It's just a street legal track tire.

I'm really wanting to get NT555s since that's what my fronts are and they are like new.
