fast and short question...:)

Is the radiator from a 2005 -2009 Mustang (4.6 manual ) different from a 2010 Mustang.. ??
According to RA they should be the same... but a Nissin radiator (for example ) is listed for a 2008 ...but not for a 2010
A OSC ( 2789 ) is listed for both years...

So I am a little confused now...

Thanks for any advise

Hello Everyone,

I’m a new member (typing this from the top of the Blue Mountains- two hours west of Sydney, Australia.

I have a California Special 2008- AUTOMATIC. Had it since new and it’s fantastic.

So, with 115000 miles on the clock, I have commenced a big, and continuous program of practice maintenance.

I’m now looking at the cooling system and have one specific question where I would really appreciate your. Assistance and knowledge- I want to replace the radiator (just for peace of mind and to assist longevity).

Which is the best quality replacement radiator for my AUTO. I think it has a built in transmission oil cooler embedded within the OEM radiator- I haven’t seen it, though that is the impression I have from looking on line.

Can anyone please help me out- what is the best, good quality’plug and play replacement radiator for me.

I can order easily for CHPonyparts, Tascar, Summit Racing or FRSport- though just want to make sure I get this right.

Much appreciated,
Adrian

I believe you are correct. You need to order a radiator for an automatic to get the built in oil cooler. I installed a Mishimoto radiator with a thicker core as an upgrade in my 2010 GT a few years ago. I have had to repair two separate leaks in welds on that radiator and because of that I would not recommend Mishimoto as a replacement.

+1 on the Mishimoto HP radiator.............had 1 to start leaking on me in a tank weld seam for no reason as well after 4+ yrs of service. They will honor their lifetime replacement warranty though, FYI--if you've kept your purchase receipt to prove initial ownership AND you registered it using the rad's serial number on their web site after initial purchase AND you show\provide evidence (pictures) of the leak(s) being due to poor worksmanship\build quality.......got a NIB replacement in my shed as a spare.

Currently am running a Cold Case Aluminum HP radiator for 05-14 S197 MT (uses the exact same 2 row, 1" W core design @ 16 fins\1" that the FRPP Aluminum 05-14 S197 HP radiator used--now discontinued) that is proving out to be a much better performing unit concerning heat dissipation vs the Mishimoto w\ it's 3 row, 5\8" W core design @ 15 fins\1" (wanted to try out another HP radiator cooling core design.........had wanted the FRPP Aluminum 05-14 S197 HP radiator to replace the OEM stock radiator back in May 2020 but I let the $700.00+ price tag deter me thus went w\ the Mishimoto @ $297.95+ price........in hindsight wish I hadn't balked on the price.....).

We'll see how long she holds up..........so far, so good.

Cold Case also offers a lifetime replacement warranty as well on their radiators.............FYI.

Not trying to sell it...........just offering that there are differences in aluminum HP radiator cooling core designs to consider other than build quality & brand name.

Thanks very much for all those constructive comments. That will help me a lot. We imported the GT California Special 2008 (had it converted here). It’s traveled 115000 miles on the Australian roads and I have really begun to research proactive maintenance projects- primarily to assist longevity. Secondly, to assist 1. handling, 2. performance, 3. comfort (NVH) and 4. Integration (a synthesis of all earlier categories. I have had zero problems with the cooling system, though thought a total refresh may be sound. I have the 7 fan Gord Performance cooling fan on its way from USA. Already have new upper and lower rad tubing ready. Have new OEM style water pump on shelf, plus new thermostat. The tricky issue (thus my inquiry) had been to learn more, and make solid choice re the radiator.
