so i got the green light from the woman to go ahead and buy a set of drilled/slotted rotors and brake pads since my car is starting to squeel and i thought i heard a slight grind while coming home from the gym right now.
now i have to decide between the two kits i was looking at

1) baer decelarotors drilled/slotted rotors are about 300 bucks for all four rotors only, plus i need to buy the brake pads

2) irotors kit 300 bucks for the drilled/slotted rotors plus the pads

i'm thinking of going with the irotors kit since it comes with the pads but was wondering which you guys would go with. i'll be making the purchase after work at 6am.

You don't really need drilled or slotted unless you just want the bling factor. It is unlikely that your rear brakes need attention, so I wouldn't go out and buy 4 (unless you want the bling factor).

i like the look of them and really only need the pads but might as well get the set since i do a lot of car shows as well. i'm aware the performance doesn't improve much

drilled rotors have higher chance of forming cracks.. go slotted only :) ( at least from what i know)

i can't? :evillaugh:

trying to work something out for the Baer setup, just trying to see how much for the pads included in the deal from rpi..... or should i just get the rotors and some hawk pads???? i'm in the middle of trying to piece together my suspension mod pieces from the other thread but trying to see where the best deal is. only looked at lethal performance right now and trying to get a total... but still need to shop around just don't know where.

Ya, I wasnt going to go nuts on $$ for brakes, I am putting the $1,000 or so $$ I saved from not buying a GT500 upgrade kit, and putting that $$ in the rear suspension as well..DR's, LCA, and an adjustable upper.:beerdrink: I have all the other stuff at this point..

I'd do the baer drilled/slotted. They will cool quicker and help prevent glazing by doing this. Downside, yes they can crack, but I haven't personally seen many do that. I guess you could figure they shave a little rotating mass off too, which should free up hp. I'm not sure of total weight savings, but technically, it does help.

Weight savings with the drilled rotors is minimal (we're talking ounces, not pounds). Baer may cast the rotors with the holes rather than drilling them after the fact which would help with the cracking situation but I'm not sure about that (I know a while ago there was a company that did this, but my memory is foggy). A lot of it depends on how hard you are on your brakes; I would NOT recommend inexpensive drilled rotors for heavy auto-x or road race use (or any inexpensive rotor really), but for general street use lots of people have no problems. How hard is drag racing on brakes anyway? I've only been to a strip a few times in not particularly fast cars so I'm honestly not that sure..

it's not the big brake baer kit---have you checked the link?

i decided on the Baers since it's pretty much the same price, just debating on whether to go with the brakes they include or just skip them and get some hawk pads with them.

i'm also putting some money into some more suspension pieces today along with buying the torque converter monday and i HOPE i don't find myself spending anymore cash after that haha i'm saving my money for a motor build once i get this stuff out of the way.

drag racing isn't near as hard on brakes as road racing is. only a few stops from 100+mph a track day. i don't road race so i hope these last for a while. for that price it isn't that bad. i was looking at the strange lightweight brake kit for 600 bucks a while ago too.... wonder how those would hold up

those are ceramic pads right? i have a fast undercar local here and they told me it is not recommended to use a ceramic pad on drilled/slotted rotors, instead use a semi-metallic. is this true?

here is the pads i can get local, cost is 90 bucks for all four- Centric pads - http://www.centricparts.com/prod01.htm
