Staggered tire setup question

I'm running a staggered tire setup 255/45 18 285/40 18 Pirelli P 0 neros all around. The fronts are pretty much shot but the rears are in great shape.
Is it recommended to replace the fronts with the same brand/tread pattern?
I would like to try the nittos but replacing 4 tires now is gonna be big $$$
What are your thoughts?

There's no safety reasons to worry about IMO. It isn't like you're mixing bias ply and radials. I just think it looks kinda funky to have two different brand tires on. But if you're gonna replace the rear's sometime soon with the same tread pattern, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Just what Frank said. Also, be aware the car will might handle a little different. Become acclimated to the new handling characteristics before pushing the car.

Tread pattern for street tires isn't as important as it is for competition tires. That said, be sure you have the same treadwear rating front and rear for handling and safety. Some people get by with using drag radials on the street, which ignores this rule, and thats great...if you want to go fast in a straight line. If you live in an area that has turns, I recommend getting the same UGA rated tires.

Update...Decided to pull the trigger on a pair of Pirelli's for the front, Piece of mind and the overall look of a matched set made the difference in the decision...It also helped that a national tire dealer had a sale on them
