Tail light reflector rattling

I have a 2012 GT that is bone stock except I installed 2 12" subs in a sealed box and for some strange reason the passenger tail light vibrates. I thought it was the license plate at first but after poking around it appears that it is in fact the light. The box is as far away from the passenger taillight as possible and the driver side (which has the box right behind it) doesn't rattle at all... It appears that its the reflector in the housing that's making the noise.

I'm hesitant to bring it to a stealership as I know they will probably say its my fault...

Have you made sure its tightened down completely? Maybe a bulb got replaced and the taillight wasn't tightened down all the way.

+1 try pulling the cover panel back and tightening it up a bit. Even if nothings been replaced, the vibration can cause fasteners to work their way loose.

So you added 2 12" subs to the trunk and thought things were going to stay quiet?

Your lucky if that is the only rattle you have.

Do as above, if it till rattles, you might need to get some sound deadner to keep the rattles down.

mine did the same thing... i had to actually take my housing apart and hot glue parts of my light.....

Yeah I did check all the fasteners for the light and they were tight...

I'm almost scared to ask what parts you had to hot glue...

i had to glue the bottom of the led posts.. they would rattle and wiggle when the bass hit... if you arent comfortable doing it then i wouldnt.

This, its very easy to tighten it down. Just take the black fasteners off of your carpet. There are bolts that hold the light to the frame of the car. Tighten them down, but not too much because you will break them. That will stop the rattling. It will come back though unless you loctite. I wouldnt suggest permanent loctite.

Even if it feel tight by hand you can torque it down just a little bit more. I had a JL 10W3 with a 500w amp in my car and it made my lights rattle. They felt tight but I tightened the bolts down more and it stopped.

You could also dynamat your trunk.

Figured I'd give a quick update... took the light out and the reflector was not connected at the bottom... Ford replaced it under warranty... glad they did cause the light is $ 600.00... fixed the problem obviously.

good thread....have the same problem ( i only have One Alpine 12" sub).....will look into this, this coming week!

If you take it back to the stealership I would say it would probably be worth your time to remove the sub... I did cause I didn't want any grief... but mine was pretty easy to take out... I'll do a proper install when the warranty is up...
