Exhaust and hard to make Street decisions !!!
Terry, The Touring Mufflers sound great. I've been trying to find the right sound on my car for a long time. The problem is with having an O/R H, the sound is really loud, and like you, like sound, but appreciate discretion when driving through my neighborhood, but love sound at WOT.
What Headers and X or H pipe are you using? Are you still running cats?
Hi Chad,
Here is what might turn out to be hopefully a {Short} story on mufflers and some of my older closer buddies.
All of us have now had 4-5-6 different sets of exhaust over time.
We have spent some dollars screwing around with trying to get the exact type of sound we wanted.
We want the Muscle Idle and the Aggressive WOT sound.
But we did not wish to have the DRONE inside the cabin with the windows up.
That was part of what we wanted and was not really working out as we went through the different exhaust systems.
We could get the Idle and the WOT (Wide Open Throttle) sound.
But we never could get the inside cabin Racket to be gone to where it was acceptable.
More time goes by and here is what has taken place with some of us.
We all have what I think would be considered highly modified street Mustangs.
Some more than others obviously.
I think I am the 1st one in the group to just say to myself, enough is enough.
(To Damn LOUD exhaust)
Once I cam to grips with that I then as always did the research and have honestly come to be very good at that.
I made the decision to {Quieten} down my Mustang to where I could drive it anyway I chose.
And Brother that is saying something right there.
I have not driven the Mustang in an honest to goodness Aggressive Manner for a very-very long time.
The Damn thing was just to LOUD to the outside World.
And especially where I live and where my Buddies live.
I decided to try a set of exhaust that to me would be quieter to the outside Public sector.
But hoping they would Deliver a Throaty, Performance, Aggressive Big-Block V8 sound.
I decided if they would do that under Power and give a reasonable amount of feedback as it went through the gears I was just going to live with it.
Never expected to have the type of Idle Feedback that the "Touring" turned out to Deliver.
After they were installed and the Bullitt was still on the lift in the muffler shop.
I got in to back it off and Fire-it-Up to do so.
And the Damn thing Sounded Awesome as soon as it Fired.
Even the idle was not to subdued and Punching the Gas it cam alive instantly.
I knew right then the "Touring" was a "Keeper".
Drove it over to my Local Buddies house that afternoon and we took it out.
He said right off after we just had got going, these are the Shit Terry.
I said wait until you hear this Bad-Ass once I actually Stand-on-it.
We went all over the place while it was still light and Bobby my running Mate just kept saying to me.
Man you have the (Right) Sound with the Right Car Buddy.
This thing Sounds Bad Ass from idle to WOT.
Nice to have a Buddy to give one feedback I think.
(And not one that just says what he thinks you wish to hear)
I've had this Bullitt since 2008 and I use to hit the rev-limiter frequently.
Had FRPP 4:10 Gears in it and a few Mods at that point.
I use to Luv just winding the crap out of it and hitting 2nd and 3rd gear and it just Leap on the road.
Take off in 1st and Nail it and it just go Crazy, fast shift to 2nd and tires break loose again.
Have not done any of that in a very long time.
(I don't want a Ticket)
With this current set-up with the Borla "Touring" mufflers I can now once again get out there and have Fun.
Not so much acting like a Half-Wit driving but just able to once again enjoy the ride for what it is.
As I said to my Buddies why spend all this money if you are {Paranoid} to stand-on-it.
I will say this on the Drag Strip with the Borla "Atak" system it was an Awesome sounding ride for sure.
But guess what it is not on the Drag-Strip, it is on the Street with the Public.
So as I said I made the move to put it back to a Street Bullitt Mustang.
And there is one more Street Change coming up this week if the parts get here and I can get it in to have them installed.
Some decisions are Hard ones to make because I think all of us to a degree wish for others to like our rides and brag on them.
And LOUD, Super Aggressive sounding Mustangs are what in many cases get the Attention and Comments by others.
In my case I will be The-Lone-Ranger and step up "To-the-Bat" and have mine fully Streetable.
I will do a Post on this up coming change as soon as it actually takes place.
What Headers and X or H pipe are you using? Are you still running cats?
Kooks LT headers, H-Pipe and High Flow Cats.
End of the Short Story,
