Ok detailing guros riddle me this! Why is it that you are advised to apply wax on a speed setting of 5-6 on a PC? I always applied it on a 2.5 with a gold pad and thought that was fine. Does having it at that high of a speed produce more gloss or a higher finish? I understand polishes and compounds need that high but does a wax or sealant need it that high?

My hand only has 1 speed, and that's the one I use for wax. For sealant, I usually use something around "2" on the PC

I never really take a PC higher than speed 2-3 when spreading wax. Mainly because that's all you're doing, is spreading product. Maybe if some LSP contain fillers you could benefit from bumping it up a notch to fill imperfections, but for the most part you don't need to go that fast. The higher the speed setting, the more friction and heat you're creating which is not good in terms of waxes and sealants.

There is no reason something with fillers would "fill" better at a higher speed, since it's still not utilizing abrasive action, only application of a product. Fillers will do the same no matter what speed you use or even if by hand.

filler glazes, liquid waxes and sealants, AIO's.. no real benefit going over speed 1. I agree.

Where did you see that they needed to be applied with speed 5 or 6?

Not sure where the benefit would be... it would be counterproductive as 99% of the "AIOs" out there don't have bite, just fillers.

Some machines say speed 1-3 for waxes and 4-6 for polish, maybe he read it backwards.

I apply the Menerzerna intensive polish on setting 5 on my PC.

You need heat in order to work the polish in.

All waxes should be on setting 1-2 as you are just trying to massage the wax in, not burn through it. I normally apply wax by hand and buff by hand though.

I have used the PC for wax application before on speed 1. It seems to spread the wax a bit thinner and make removal much much easier to remove. however most of the time I apply by hand.
