Got to make a trip back to the tower again.

20070627 runner up.jpg

Runner-up (again) but heck, the beer is cold. The track really cooled off fast (just like last Saturday). Next time I'm jut going to put a 13.0 on the window and if I break out, oh well.

Cheers! :wasted:

[email protected] and that was when it was still hot. I dialed in at 13.15 but as it cooled I would get ahead and then lift. Just not TOO much. R/Ts were getting a little better during dial-ins - .220, .064, .024 & .143. 60's were 2.0xx all night, the M&Hs still have 32psi and I've not been doing burnouts because of the new paint, I keep forgetting to throw some tape in the car.

Bracket races:

'03 Mach 1, I pulled him back in pretty quickly so I lifted at the end
1905.jpg

Camaro, we figured this would be close and it was, I lifted at just the right time.
2019.jpg

Silverado, with the huge head-start he was getting I figured I wouldn't have much room to play around at the end of the track. When I saw him red-light, I decided no-way am I leaving til I SEE green, then I let her fly. Just for shits & giggles, I like to do the math on this one...
2103.jpg

'02 Vette, he got me at the tree, I was coming back strong at the end but started to think I wasn't going to catch him and that he might break out so I lifted. I chose poorly...
2130.jpg

Ordered my Spydershaft yesterday. With that and some properly executed burn-outs I'm going back for more. It would be great to hit the 12's before the KB goes on.

Very cool... any vids? And the spydershaft may be enough to get you into the 12's!

BTW, it must be nice to run into opponents who have bad lights like that once in while. For the past few months, it seems like whenever I'm in a bracket race, the guy in the other lane cuts an 0.030 or better. Oh well... you live by the tree and die by the tree... that's racing.

Thanks. Yeah, I've died at the tree doing the exact same thing. I think I do better when I'm not the "Rabbit". Didn't get any pics or video, I was racin' "Lone Wolf" style last night. Can you settle this? I've had two people tell me it's ok to change your dial-in and two others tell me it's not. I was going to ask a track official last night but the oppertunity never presented itself.

Absolutely you can (and often should) change the dial in. I typically don't write mine on the window until just before I'm ready to roll into the water box. I consider the most recent prior pass, what the weather has done since then, how long the car has had to cool, etc. Only then do I decide what to dial for that next run.

Good job Stanley.......thats two 2nd place finishes in a week??

You definitely did the right thing with the Silverado---that full pass even though he redlighted would give you a good indication on how to dial in the next round.

And, like Don, said, you can change your dial in anytime when your in the staging lanes.

oh no. what happened?
Well, piecing it together from other threads - he appears to have raced in drag and had sex with his transmission, but I am a little fuzzy on the details - come'on Roper tell us what happened? :worth:

I was a total bonehead. First run I did my burn out in 1st gear, then staged the car. Launched with a .019 r/t but didn't think to put it in "Drive" till I was well past the 60' marker. Second run I wasn't going to make that mistake again, did my burnout in 1st, then shifted up to FRIKKIN 3rd instead of Drive. I counted clicks but didn't look to verify. Got out of the hole (in 3rd) and the car was a dog. I had a flashback to the first run and started to think I had screwed the tranny up from that. Then I looked down, saw it was in 3rd and bumped it to Drive. Both of these runs were againt the SYT to boot. On the first run, lostsoul thought I had broken down so he let up, once I had figured out what was wrong and got it into drive, I took a fly back at him but ran out of room.

A few runs later, the car would not shift into reverse. I kept at it and it finally worked (besides, I was doing well, eventually won my bracket lane). On the return road, the shifting was all over the place. Like it wouldn't go into 3rd, then the revs would jump and it would "slide" into third. After I won I reloaded my tune "hoping" that it may fix it. It actually seemed fine for a while but when I got off of the freeway in Lodi it did it again, the car gets to the top of 2nd, then revs and slides into third.

On the one hand I want to express sympathy, I know first hand how difficult blowing a transmission can be and would not wish that on anyone...

On the other hand, its you and its an automatic that you were pretending to shift so the words of the great "Nelson" come to mind ("Ha Ha!")...

But seriously, that blows - time for a bigger badder transmission:onfire:

I've been guilty of those things once or twice way back when. But, I've since changed my staging routine to try to control said boneheadedness. After I light up the prestage bulb, I look down and double check: (1) that the shifter position is in D, (2) that OD is off, (3) that TCS is off, (4) that the heater/AC is off, and (5) that my line lock and fan switches are off. It only takes a couple seconds to do that, and only then do I roll into the stage beam.

EDIT: I hope the tranny symptoms aren't fatal. Sounds kinda like what Ed's is doing.

I wonder if my warranty will cover it? I'll ask Hawgman...
Make sure you swap out with someone's dead alternator while you are at it...

As always with warranty service, best to scrub the burnt rubber off the rear quarters... :thud:
