My first oil change at 4000mi was down about a quart. I checked my oil while filling up back in January and the oil still looked amber in color and was in the cross-thatched area with about 3000mi on it. When I went to change it in February at 4000mi it was down a quart and definitely turned brown. We'll see how this current oil looks after 4000.

+1 on the GT500 PCV.

Wait are there still people who don't know that's how you break in a motor? I've never seen that particular page but that's almost exactly how I broke mine in. You don't need a ton of RPM you just need a lot of load on the engine.

Exactly. Most people want to just pet or rub their car for the first few miles when in reality you're doing more harm than good.

I broke in a brand new motor the way Mototune describes, as hard as it was to bring myself to do it because it totally went against what I "thought" was the correct way, and I could FEEL the power building with each accelerating run. Literally FEEL the power building. It was the most amazing thing and from that point on I was sold! The motor I did this too, built CRAZY HP/TQ on the dyno and wicked like a banshee on crack!!!! NEVER burned a drop of oil AT ALL!!!!!

Controversial to most, but I am a follower now.

I'd like to hear from Evolution Perf., Beefcake, BBR, JPC, and all the others that are making stupid power out of there built cars on how they break them in............most likely straight to the dyno.....

EDIT: One last thing, I test drove a brand new 2012 Mustang GT 5.0 for a whole weekend. When I got the car it had like 11 miles on it. I drove the car like I stole it all weekend and it too pulled harder and harder as I beat on it. 2nd and 3rd gear pulls were astounding and the car never spit, missed a lick, notta, just wicked up and flew! I put almost 300 miles on the car and believe me, they were not gentle miles. Oil burnt? ZERO!!!!

Disclaimer: definitely not scientific by any means, but I believe it works.

Breaking in a new Motor

This works. As controversial as it may seem.............DO IT!!!!

Guess, that's why I've had such good luck with my car. Thing didn't have 100 miles on it and it didn't see anything less than 6k RPM's. On my way home me and my friend who then had a supercharged 10 raced just about the whole way home after celebrating me spending 30k on a car. :highfive:

I break in my cars like so:

Beat the ever living piss out of them for the first 1000 miles with a full synth group IV.

Replace the oil at 1000 miles. Continue to beat the piss out of them. Replace oil at 5500-7500 with a full synth group IV.

I can honestly say the first few 1000 were hard miles. I'm starting to wonder if deceleration has anything with forcing oil into the drivers side air intake tube. I will be pulling it apart to find out.

I do the exact same thing, except I throw on an oil separator first. Try to keep the spread of unwanted "contaminants" to a minimum.

Yea, I do believe the best mod for these cars is the oil separator.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking it was. I mean, the needles didn't even get to do a sweep... I was in a hurry... :chairfall:

Best to let the needles do the sweep. It only takes a few seconds. The processor is going through a self test/boot-up process. This aint like 1970!!!! We got computer controlled cars...

Seafoaming.....hmmm never heard of it until now, nice tip...after some reading it seems to be a great laxative for the engine and fuel system...LOL. Very interesting.
After I had my whipple installed I pulled the SC'r back off after 1000 miles and noticed oil in the intake manifold, so we slapped on an oil seperator. May pull it off again in another couple 1000 miles to see how much diffrence it makes.
