Fun at Atco 8-26-12

I didn't fair too well in the Mustang vs Camaro day...I ended up getting lined up against my neighbor first round when they shuffeled the cars up..I wasn't sure what to dial my car at since my first time shot I went 10.669 and on my second run I must have spun a little or had high IAT's and went a 10.91 so I dialed a 10.90.

Right at the launch I knew I was on track for another 10.6x-10.7x run so I had to ride the brakes from the 1/8 mile on....I treed my friend but ended up braking too hard and lost by .005 at the stripe. At least my neighbor who I lost to was the runner up in the drag radial/slick class so I'm not upset to have lost to him.

I have in car video from my cell phone of my 10.669 and new best 10.658 runs and figured I would share. I'm out of gear crossing the line so if I had 3.90 or 3.73 gears in the car I probably would have gone a little faster.

This is the 10.669 run...had a 1.476 60' on this one.



And here is the 10.658 run with a 1.467 60'. My friends told me I had close to a foot of air under the front tires on one of the runs.

Dialing in a car is not easy. When you have a fast run and then a slow run and the weather has not changed, dial closer to your fast run. When "dumping" so you don't break out, you don't start at the 1/8 mile mark. That slows you down way too much. With your faster run base you could have ran 1000 feet and just got off the gas pedal!

I normally don't get on the brakes that early...I've been racing all year and normally don't have that kind of disparity between runs. Yesterday was the first time I turned the car up so didn't know quite what to expect. It normally will run within a few thousandths between runs and I can usually just ride the brakes a few car lengths before the stripe. I stay full throttle and modulate the brakes to keep a bumper on my opponent.

Either way, it was fun for a change and I do appreciate your input.

Thanks Dave. I need to decide if I'm going to shoot for 10.0 next year with my car. I think it's quite doable with weight savings, heads and finally putting some shocks, springs and an airbag in the passenger side rear spring.

Gotta love the M&H drag radials...On one launch I even spun, stayed in it and they ended up grabbing like a bias ply....that one was only a 1.6x 60' though but the additional rotation from the spin I trapped close to 130mph.

11.50 was on Saturday..I made it to 3rd round and forgot to put my next smaller pulley on because it got extremely humid which kills alcohol/E85. My car was set-up to run 11.48-49 during the day but once it got humid it would only run 11.53 so that wasn't good enough in 3rd round.

It wouldn't be bad to have a dyno and see the actual curves to have a better idea but I guess that 3.90 should be good enough.

3 hundredths, but there are some very good racers at Atco. I was up against one of the best foot brake racers on the east coast in the 3rd round. He cut a .001 light against my .029.

Dysan I was there Sunday and your car looked great. That thing was snappin that front wheel about a foot. On your first run there was some of the camaro guys sitting behind me talking smack about your car(prob just because it was a mustang)....when u hung the tires the one guy said "wtf" and when they saw your ET he said "fuckin mustangs".....I lol'd.
