Hi, I'm reposting from a thread I started in Tires and Wheels. My hope is that more exposure here will turn up someone who has solved this problem.

I have a new setup. Going to be running drag radials all the time and need to reset the tpms. I've done it before with no problem but now it won't go into the relearn mode.

I've tried all the combinations of key in, brake, key on x3, brake, repeat and no dice.

Has anyone had this issue and overcome it? I'm thinking of putting a stock tune on and trying it again. I've also tried with a fresh tune install, right after driving, and after pulling the negative cable for 30 minutes. No combination is working.

This is not a PCM issue so tune has nothing to do with it.

I have done this a lot and never seen this happen. Sorry I can't help you out with this Bruce.

If you now the process by memory and it being easy I can't figure out what can it be.

Doing this fast enough? Do you have anything that would cut energy to something in the SJB?

I've tried different speeds. I also tried doing it with accesory sjb wires disconnected. It still won't go into learn mode. I'd really like to disable tpms but that appears almost impossible unless I can figure out the frequency of the sensors and fake the signal with a signal generator.

Most of the searching I've done leads to the dealership. Something about the dealers scan tool can reset the tpms into learning mode. Even the Ford manual says you have to have a scan tool but I didn't need it before. I've also tried clearing dtc even though none were picked up.

TPMS errors come as B type codes so you won't get it with the SCT.

I have never had to do this and I have an IDS. There is another TPMS tool that is quite expensive from Ford. I will give a read over the manuals and see.

Maybe Alfredo (Alfiedagr8) has an idea on this.

Are there any negative side effects besides just the annoying dash light?

Not really. The reset button has to be pushed every time it's started to clear the warning message.

Then there is the obsessive compulsive perfectionism aspect. That's the hardest one to deal with. I won't be able to let it go so it will have to be corrected.

I can definitely understand that. I even hate the tcs light that comes on when the nannies are turned off.

I don't run any TPMS valves and yes you have to reset the button every time. The light on the dash doesn't bother me as the traction control off light is always on also.

I apologize in advance if I am hijacking your thread, but is there anyway to just disable that light from coming on? TPMS systems are more trouble than they are worth. I usually just check the air in my tires regularly.

I haven't found any way to do it yet. Spent way too much time looking at the wiring diagrams last night. All I've been able to find is that wire 1292 carries the tpms signal. I haven't found the wire on the car yet. I'm guessing that the sensors trip an and logic switch which in turn sends a voltage signal or turns it off to tell the cluster it's ok. If I can find that wire I'll try a few things with it like grounding, +5v, +12v.

I have a suspicion that the ids tool can be used to turn the function off but have no way to verify. It's another rainy day and my arthritis is going full strength today. This means I'll be inside researching this problem today.

I wonder if a Harbor Freight scan tool can do more than just read codes?

Success! Unplugged and replugged everything related to the sjb, no luck. Finally noticed that the brake lights weren't lighting up. Pulled the blue and white switch and operated it manually still no light. Pulled the black switch and had a brake light! Put it back together, did the procedure and it went into learning mode. Programmed all 4 of my $8 ebay sensors and got the "Training Complete" message.

In summary check your brake light switches if your vehicle won't go into tpms training learn learning mode. Those three terms should help with future searches.

No, IDS won't allow you to disable that, is a Federal thing AFAIK, is like having cats, the OEM tool does not have such provision.

I am sure there is a way, we received 07's (the first year for mandatory TPMS) that have it, but our 08's doesn't as they are "export only" so it seems some things changed when for ordered new cars.

You will need someone with an IDS and access to Ford information (basically a dealer willing to play with your car), having a non-tpms export VIN you could have as built data for the SJB and replace its calibration.

Never tested so can't confirm if it can be done or not.

I must try that, but how is it related to brake lights?

During the reset procedure you press the brakes to get the car into the tpms learn mode. Since the switch wasn't be depressed by the pedal it didn't recognize the process. Hence why it wouldn't go into learn mode.
