Thought I did...

Buddy found it in his grandmothers house, so I drove to transport it till we figure out how to make it legit. What a process.

No, I want somebody to actually own it legally before going out to shoot it. Its legal for me to have it, but i want it 100% in my name, or my buddies.

At this point, for that to happen, his grandmother would need to join me in an FFL to do a transfer.

You get used to it, you can also get better stocks and grips for a shotgun to reduce recoil. I have the ATI Talon system on mine, it's a blast to shoot, even pistol-grip only :) (except 3inch 1 3/8oz magnum slugs, those seriously hurt)

As for the 9mm vs .45 recoil, I'd have to disagree completely. All the 9mm's I've fired have much more controllable muzzle rise than my .45 at least. As for the glocks, that's the weight of the gun playing a part--the weight of the gun is a huge factor in recoil.

I like my Mossberg 500 :) The remington 870 is a "nicer" shotgun in the sense that the worksmanship seems to be a little nicer, not noticeably but a little nicer. On that same note, a lot of the newer (last 10 years) 870s have serious finish problems, and tend to rust easily. Anyway, I got my Mossberg 500 for $299 at Big5 with both a 18.5" barrel and a 28" barrel.

don't get me wrong, I loved shooting the shotgun and it really wasn't too bad as far as recoil on my shoulder. I didn't expect it to leave a mark. and as far as the .45 vs 9mm, all I know is I was way more accurate with the .45 1911 than I was with either 9mm glock or the .40 my friend has. I think it was at least partially due to the real short trigger pull of the 1911.

Well 1911's do have a much better trigger than pretty much any other gun out there.

Dicks has 870's for like $350, and I plan to get a couple Mesa Tactical parts for it :D

nice. I want to get a handgun and then do a nice shotgun build. I think it will wait until I buy a house though. Plan on moving just north of the border to make things easier.

I actually think .45 is a more controllable recoil then 9. 9 is really sharp since its moving a lot faster, .45 is a gentle nudge back. And .40 is the devil, everybody knows that.

Trying to pick up an 870 for home defense, but Em doesn't like the idea.

I mean, I have a 50's bolt action shotgun under the bed, but an 870 is out of the question.

Where did you go to shoot Kevin?

That's the 1911 more than anything, like Brian said. It's also just pratice really. If you move to NH, look into getting a Springfield XD -- I find them much nicer to shoot than Glocks. Just shop around and shoot as much variety as you can. If you plan on concealed carry, I'm not sure a 1911 is the perfect choice, maybe a compact one but I'd say a polymer gun is more suitable for carry.

Really? That's seems really low -- and it's also Dick's (talked about this before). Make sure it's not a special model made for Dick's (they have a lot of these, made specifically for a retailer and given at a lower price, sometimes, the parts aren't the same as the "standard" models and when you try to add parts, you end up having to switch out a lot of stuff--for example, the Big5 special mossbergs require a new foreend tube to use an aftermarket foreend).

Obviously the 500/870 debate will go on forever. I figured I already had a remington so I got a mossberg for variety :) No complaints, never cleaned it, works flawlessly 800+ shells later.

yeah, I probably won't carry often when I first get one. I would probably get a second gun just for that. I want one for fun mostly. Brian, let me know when you go shooting again! I would love to shoot yours to see how it feels compared to the .45.

Also remember the price of ammo if it's a big factor for you!

In my experience, .45 costs about $0.40/round to shoot and 9mm costs about $0.25/round to shoot.

Thats why I want to shoot Brians. If i'm comfortable shooting his then I would go 9mm, but I would rather shoot something more expensive than something that I don't enjoy as much.

Yerp. 870 express 18.5", and they have the express tactical as well for $350 and they are identical.

Whatever, lolz.
