So I finally got down to tearing apart the transmission that's stuck in 3rd gear. Nothing looks broken. But I'm no expert in transmissions. So I took some pictures. I was hoping for a shift for to be broken but it's not.

Basically it's stuck in 3rd gear and when it was in the car, you couldn't get it out of gear. I remember the night this happened, I went to go back up into my spot, and it crept forward. So now I'm here lol.

If I need to take pictures of anything else or videos or wiggle something lol let me know

Can you manually move the shifting collars fine?
May have more to do with the actual rail if you can push the collars back and forth fine.

Then you have to look elsewhere, shifter, shift rails, detents etc...

The shifter is brand new. It's a MGW. It works perfect fine with the backup transmissions have now. What should I looks for in the shift rails and what are detents

Now when I was taking apart the transmission, these plugs with springs and I guess you would call them detents, all came out easily except the far left one. 2 came out with a magnet and the left one I had to push from the inside to pop out when I took the shift rail off.

Also, these little lock pins, there were only 2. I read to where there was suppose to be one in the 3rd/4th shift rail but not even these little guys would fit into that hole so maybe it didn't come with it? Lol

Ok. So. I'm missing 1 locking pin. The one that goes in the shaft. Anyone know where I can get that? Like in the pictures above.

And, the reverse gear colar was put on backwards. The teeth that find the synchro are on the othe side lol.

Also there was one bolt that was barely on the casing. So this transmission has been serviced before.

Are you aware of this Ford Service Manual link http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=259 ?
Are you sure the problem is in the transmission and not with the clutch or linkage?
If you are certain that the problem is in the transmission, based on your pictures, you don't have it far enough apart for proper diagnosis. Look closer at the 3/4 blocker ring and syncro hub.
As for the interlock pins, yes there are 3. There is a pin in the center rail that can be easily lost if you are not looking for it.
Are you sure that sending it to http://www.pro-forceperformance.com/ isn't a better option for you?

Yes I love that link. Used it several times :)

I'm positive it's the transmission because I have a donor one in the car now and it's perfectly fine. We did tear it down more and the 3/4 blocker ring looked brand new.

The locking pin was never in the shaft. I am being told that those locking pins are important. If one is missing then it can actually lock into 2 gears at once. Is that true?

And I emailed pro performance on Thursday for a locking pin and it will be here Monday

Lol ok so that missing pin was probably why it was stuck in 3rd and 5th I'm assuming lol
